I sort of felt better after watching Dallas and Indy lose.

It does not matter. The time between plays takes seconds away so even if there is time to spike, you lose. Get out of bounds if you want to stop the clock.

I don't think he could have got out of bounds. That's just me.

Lol, anyone catch he was wearing a gold plated tie after the game? What a buffoon.

He is an athlete, they are not known for their brains.
You will see this demonstrated on several occasions during games.
The team that plays smarter and more disciplined usually has the best chance of winning the game.
More often then not, the more disciplined the coach, the more disciplined the team, although there are exceptions.

This implies everyone who plays professional sports is an idiot.

In Eric Ebron's case, he didn't have a chance to get out of bounds but he should have given himself up immediately instead of trying to fight for an extra yard or two. Missing the entire pre-season because of an ankle injury cost Ebron valuable practice and playing time, which might have factored into his mistake.
Marvin Jones should have known better. For a veteran player who otherwise has displayed good football savvy, it was a mistake that thankfully didn't prove costly.

What did Marvin Jones do wrong?

Like Skeet Broball mentioned, Marvin Jones didn't get out of bounds after a reception. There was about 11 seconds remaining in the game. Jones was tackled at around the Colts 25 yard line. He clearly should have headed to the sideline after he caught the ball. There was a clear path. The Lions had to use the team's final time out. Though a 43 yard FG in good conditions is a kick you are expected to make, it's far from a sure thing. Even for a kicker on Matt Prater's level. Case in point, Prater missed a PAT several minutes earlier. Not having that final timeout limited the Lions options on the next play. The end result was an incompletion, before Prater's eventual game winning FG.
The good news from the mistake by Marvin Jones, like Eric Ebron's mistake, and much like the taunting penalty by another veteran, DeAndre Levy, earlier in the 4th QTR, is they can learn from their mistakes following a win.

dude got an extra 4 yards which increased his fantasy projection by a point.
prior to that catch, he only had 26 yards.
