So who is keeping muma off the field?

Probably Oluokun and Lloyd on 1st and 2nd downs. Muma probably rotates in out depending on the down and distance with Oluokun though.

Muma is playing a unique money backer role. He is going to be a kinda 3rd safety. He will play much more than people expect. I saw it in an interview recently.

You may have seen it in this thread if you didn't have half of the MB blocked, LOL

Was mentioned quite early back in the thread

Definitely going to be interesting seeing his role and how it turns out

I think we are going to rergret the Lloyd trade and wish we had gone with a WR at 33 and having a pick at 106. Muma with Skyy or Pickens and Zach Tom or Chris Paul would make us a better team than Muma with Lloyd.

Nah, Austin => Pickens and Kirk is basically the same player as Sky

I was just about to comment on this STs play. He was in on every kick off tackle it seemed.
Muma gets his licks on Special Teams.
It's great to have him for depth too.
Yeah, he's great on Teams right now and will probably be pushing Oluokun out of the starting lineup by next season. He's a really good player.

Why do you think he will push Oluokun out of the starting lineup?

Better range already, Muma is physically faster.
28 years old is about where linebackers start to decline.
$15 million in cap savings if we cut him in 2024.

Okay, so that wouldn't be next season, that would be the season after next.  When you said he would push him out of the lineup next season, I didn't think we would be cutting a star linebacker that we signed in free agency after one season.

I didn't say we'd cut him this offseason, I said Muma is going to push him to start.
muma is a stud on ST which is great for getting expereince and has been a fill in for Olukun and Lloyd. and for sake we do have a injury at either Safety or LB he can fill in. the kid played well in Preseason but he isn't as good as either our Two ILBs right now. good problem to have.
I had mixed emotions when this draft pick was made.  I thought he was good value, but I questioned how much he would play.  This remains my concern.  I'm glad he's playing well on special teams, but you don't draft an early 3rd rounder for special teams unless your name is Gene Smith.  He's played less than 7% of the defensive snaps.  You need to be on the field to help the team win.  The USA Today article says it is a matter of time, but how much time?  Are they really going to bench a first rounder or a free agent that they just signed to a 3 year, 45 million dollar deal?  Barring injury, I don't see his playing time changing significantly until at least 2024 when we won't take a huge cap hit for cutting Oluokun.

Raw talent and age and cheaper to boot. It's the way of the NFL.

These guys get injured all the time, and he will likely be needed on D at some time or another this year.  Hopefully nothing serious happens, because the guys in front of him right now are clearly better players.  Dude will be a beast soon though.

Ask San Fransisco about that if Garrapolo wasn't still there they would have been really screwed. If any of our starting Lb are injured we wount be having a sinkhole deep drop off in talent at the position.
