+It is only week 1 of a long season. The team showed a ton of heart coming back. They have to learn to finish
+James Robinson looked great. Looks like the stud is back
+ETN flashed some speed with huge plays.
+Travon Walker had a couple of huge plays. A sack and an INT.
+Tyson Campbell with a huge INT
+There was a handful of explosive plays on offense.
+The team won the turnover battle
+Second half adjustments were almost enough to win the game.
+The game was competitive.

-The Team continues to shoot itself in the foot. They did enough to win today but could not figure out a way to win. Horrible defense towards the end of the 4th quarter.
-Trevor Lawrence did not have a strong day. He continues the miss the easy stuff while making a handful of questionable decisions every game. It's year two and I for one was hoping we would see more consistency from him.  The excuses will start running out.
-Receiver drops also did not help Lawrence. There were 2 dropped redzone TDs including a wide open one by ETN. The QB and receiving crew are inconsistent.
-Cam Robinson and this offensive line got their tail handed to them today. Trevor did not stand a chance the last drive due to pressure.
-Overall, there was a lack of consistent pass rush. It got better in the second half but Wentz was comfortable most of the game.
-The gameplan abandoned the running game too early. I felt both Robinson and ETN should of had more carries. (15 carries for our two running backs)
-Kicker is still a question mark
-Defense is Jekyll/Hyde with some drives they look good and others just look entirely lost
-Missed tackles
-Team can't figure out how to win
Too many missed tackles and too many penalties. Got to clean that up next week.

Agreed
Quicker reads and quicker throws
I know no one gives much importance to this but this was also the first game for Pederson and the whole staff as a team (Pederson coming back after taking a year off). I think they will correct things and the team will get better. We are still lacking talent at the OL though.

First half was ugly but the second half was much better. No matter what people say, second half was better than most (if not all) games last year.

I will also add that

-Campbell was awful on that TD.
-Some ugly drops
-Robinson is definitely back
-All the DBs were kinda bad at some point
Griffin reminds me of Devon House. He gets smoked on the 9 routes.

Williams missed 3 tackles before the end of the 2nd quarter.

Taylor is just way more athletic than Little. It was Little at RT in the 4th quarter during that 2 minute drive. His change of direction is just bad and he’s not as strong as Taylor.

Etienne lost the game by not catching that TD. They walked away with 0 points. Patterson missed the FG banging it off the right upright. Kid has a strong leg though and he kicks it pure, just got make em.

Trevor Lawrence….he’s got to stop looking at the rush. On some plays he stands in there and some plays he bails out of the pocket way too early. He doesn’t move the pocket at all. He doesn’t climb the ladder. He’s got to make quicker decisions. This ain’t Clemson playing against South Dakota State. Make quicker reads and throw the football.

Walker. He’s everything you want in a 1st overall pick. He’s the real dealio. They made the right pick. He’s a playmaker. I would like to see him get off blocks better but the instincts are off the charts.

The TE was non existent.

Playcalls have to be short and quick stuff to set up the medium to long stuff.

Campbell jumped a nice out route. Good play there. Dotson beat him for the TD bc Wentz dropped a dime piece.

Griffin is just…I don’t know man. He needs to get better immediately.

Josh Allen caused a fumble and played quality football. The gadget play to Dotson was snuffed out by Allen.

Curtis Samuel and Gordon welcomed Lloyd to the NFL by taking them ankles.

Cam Robinson was dang near perfect.

Brandon Scherff had an awful game. He was beat a few times.

Fortner did his job.

It was a close game. Played hard. Atleast we had a shot to win.

Glad to see Pederson makes adjustments at halftime. That’s a great sign of a good coach.
Is no one going to give christian kirk credit? Had like 120 yards loooed every bit the number 1 wr

I had to go double check the box score.

117 yds and averaged 19.5 per pop

Lloyd led the team in tackles. And Walker had the only sack on defense. Wentz made a ham sandwich on drop backs.

Logan Cooke averaging 50 yards a punt. Marvin with his usual 38 yards.
Positives:
1. Walker- looks like a star in the making and made game changing plays with the sack and Int. Also smashed the RB ant the line of scrimmage when it looked like he was about to get a big gain
2. J Rob- 2 TDs and looked like the top 100 player that he is
3. Kirk- Over 100 yards in his first game as a Jag and will be a huge addition to our offense
4. Etienne- Had the 1 drop in his first game but was explosive almost every time he touched the ball
5. Zay Jones/Lloyd/Campbell- Jones looks like he will be a great pickup as a 3rd WR. Lloyd started a little slow but really started to settle in in the 2nd half and I think will have a big game next week. Campbell had almost a flawless game and had the big pick but gave up the 1 big play late to Dotson in the endzone when he didnt get his hand up

Negatives:
1. Penatlties- 13
2. Defense in the first half, but did settle in the 2nd half and then gave up the TD late for the lead
3. Tackling, not sure how many missed tackles we had but i know it was a ton
4. oline
5. Trev's accuracy at tiimes, did have a decent game but missed some critical throws
6. Drops in critical situations
Major pluses
Kirk
James Robinson
Trevon still a long way to go in pass rush

Flashed to above average
Tyson campbell- big pick, probably had some nice stuff on film.. missed several tackles in first half and gave up the big play at the end by forgetting what he has learned in locating football.

Marvin and Zay Jones- both going to be really good players for us this year and had key first downs. One dropped a pass in Endzone but would have been nice catch.

Etienne- flashed explosiveness for sure.. drop was a dagger in the heart but I don’t think that will be a regular thing for him .

Josh Allen… made some good plays.. but where was the pass rush? He needs to be in the major plus column not this one.

Interior pass rush and play- noticed some plays from Hamilton foley Robertson Harris and others inside today.. thought they did some good things but nowhere to be found when we needed them to stop the 90 play drive ..

Trevor.. thought he was above average today and we needed him to be really good.. he drove the ball with some nice conversions and throws but missed on a handful of plays and lost his internal clock on pass rush at times .. wasn’t horrible but wasn’t great either.

The Bad-

Darius - horrific tackling. He was a major factor in this game and in a bad way.

O line pass pro… way to leaky, Bartch not good… center did ok but was a rookie at times. Edge pressure from both tackles sporadically throughout game. Their twisting and stunts hurt us and they were still missing quite a few of their better players up front . Overall not good enough.

Overall pas rush… way too much time for weintz for most of the game.. looked nothing like the preseason very disappointing

penalties .. too many stupid penalties Put that on coaches and leaders.

Tackling and secondary at beginning and end of game…. Thought secondary was a strength of this team? . other than the pick I thought they gave up a lot of easy throws today .. and the big plays down the field at beggining and end of game was constant. Tackling in general from them was bad. But much of that was on Darius. Was hoping Cisco would make more of an impact.
Just now was able to watch the game.
Offense left a lot of points on the field.
Defense played great until it mattered most.
Disappointed in the loss but there are a lot of positives from this game.

It was all Lawrence.

I think this was the biggest takeaway from the whole game.  We lost both lines of scrimmage.  The run blocking wasn't bad at times but the pass protection was awful.  They routinely got pressure rushing just 4.  And routinely got pressure up the middle which makes it significantly harder.  I really liked Bartch's story and have been rooting for him but he got whipped!  Huge liability.  I kept waiting for them to bench him for someone else.  And then defensively we never got much of a pass rush going.  Even when we blitzed they would often pick it up (ie the last touchdown to put washington up for good).  Wentz had far too much time to throw.  I don't know if true or not but I have this vague recollection of hearing some analyst saying you want to make Wentz beat you from teh pocket as opposed to letting him scramble and make plays ad lib.  Clearly that didn't work for us today.  And if there was some plan to keep him in the pocket you still need to get pressure on the guy.  To compare the two QBs today would be laughable considering how easy we made it for Wentz and how hard it was for Lawrence.  Games are won up front and we lost both sides of it.

Secondary for the most part was not very good.  Too many missed tackles and blown coverage.  Obviously not getting pressure on the QB makes it much harder for them but it felt like a sloppy effort. Really disappointing as there was so much hype about how good they'd be.

Offense feels like it could be pretty good.  Falling behind so quickly so early it felt like it got our offense a little out of rhythm.  Not sure what the run / pass ratio was in the first half but it felt way too heavy pass.  Both James and Etienne need to touch the ball a lot more.  Still don't know that we have that big play home run WR on the roster that defenses need to fear but there are enough above average guys which should make it difficult for defenses to match up against.

As far as Trevor, admittedly a fairly low bar considering how rough last year was, but I thought he looked significantly better than last season.  Other than that missed throw to Etienne which was obviously a huge miss, for the most part I thought he made all the throws you'd expect him to.  I didn't think there were that many gimme's that he missed.  The one major criticism I have though is how he plays off script.  He is really good when he gets blocking but in the NFL you've got to make plays when things break down and you're under duress.  I read someone on here (maybe this thread) say he watches the rush too much.  Now I don't agree with that.  I think he still does a good job of looking down the field wanting to make the play.  But you can tell the rush bothers him.  His uneasiness is clear to see and it looks like he begins to rush.  Almost jittery at times.  And late in the game the announcer made a comment about his internal clock was too slow on a sack.  Perhaps true on that play but sometimes it feels like he has the opposite problem where his internal clock speeds up and is in such a rush to get the ball out.  Doesnt set his feet, rushes a throw, and it just looks ugly.  You got to make off balance throws in the league with rushers all around you.  Clearly not a strength of his yet.  Some people seem to have that innate ability to dance around and make plays (ie Minshew).  But I do think with more experience Lawrence will get better in that aspect.  Just learning to be more comfortable in those situations.

While I am bummed because it felt like as though we stole a victory from the jaws of defeat (only to have it stolen back from us), it did feel as though we deserved to lose going back to initial comments about losing both lines of scrimmage.  So not overally upset we lost.  We got outplayed.  But it didnt feel like how many of the losses from the last few years have felt.  Still feels like we have much more potential.  And it's a long season.  Feels like we'll get a lot better.
Minuses:

1. The offensive line needs to get better. Lawrence faced too much pressure from a Redskins defense without Chase Young.

2. Lawrence also must get better. He still misses too many open receivers. I still believe he will have a very good NFL career.

3. Pederson is a very good coach, but going for 2 points so early in the game was a bad decision.

4. Darious Williams needs to tackle much better than what we saw today.

5. The jury is still out on our new kicker. No NFL kicker should miss from 37 yards out. I never sweated when Josh Lambo, Scobee and Hollis attempted field goals of less than 45 yards. That won't be the case this year.

Pluses:

1. Free agent receivers Kirk and Zay Jones are a major upgrade and both will prove to be worth the large contracts they received.

2. Evan Engram should have a solid season if he remains healthy. It wouldn't surprise me to see some games when he is our leading receiver.

3. Trevon Walker has the ability to become this franchises best defensive player once his career is over. Once he learns more pass rush moves, he will need to be constantly double-teamed which should enable Josh Allen to record double digit sacks on an annual basis.

4. Devin Lloyd's development was hurt by his pre-season injury, but he should get better every week and the trade-up to get him will be considered an excellent move by Baalke.

5. Tyson Campbell has improved tremendously, but he still occasionally fails to play the ball. No way Dotson should have been able to catch that back-breaking touchdown on him.

My projection of this team winning 7 games still feels right. They should improve each week and we won't see any blowouts like in our recent history unless Lawrence gets hurt.
I've been disagreeing with Bullseye lately but I was kinda hoping to see his thread

Stats on two-point conversions attempts don't count in the totals, but it is interesting to note that Lloyd got a sack there as well.  Our two first rounders were the only players to get sacks today.
I’m fascinated by the focus on Bartch for the poor line play. TL was sacked twice, once when Scherff’s opponent went by him like Scherff missed hearing the snap and the second when Cam’s player beat him cold, forced TL to scramble and Bartch’s opponent was able to roll off the block and capture TL running away. Bartch could have been the reason the line sucked, but I don’t think replacing one player, the LG no less, is the medicine this line needs. When it leaked, it leaked everywhere.

It seems like TL was either pressured by multiple Commanders (heh. Stupid name) on a play or none at all. Some plays the line was rock solid and TL had all kinds of time. Others it dripped from everywhere like a leaky shower. It looked to me like they had rampant assignment breakdowns. When it worked, it was ok. When it didn’t then everything went to hell.

It will be interesting to see what the coaches do. My view is they need to go up tempo short passing and frequent runs.

Bartch wasn't the sole reason for the poor OL play, but he was a huge part of the problem. And as you can clearly see in the 3rd clip, Bartch is the cause of that sack.

No doubt Bartch got beat and his man sacked TL, but Cam’s man had already collapsed the pocket by cutting under Cam and behind Bartch.  In fact, Cam’s man was two steps from sacking TL himself and had flushed TL from the pocket.

And analysing all those clips, not to defend Bartch but to assess unemotionally:

1. Undoubtedly Bartch is beat, but he wasn’t the only beat.  TL is hit simultaneously by the DT and the DE who beat Little.  Additionally TL had the entire pocket free in front of him.  He should have stepped forward into the pocket and under the rush to relieve the pressure rather than pass off the back foot while backing up.

2. That was a five-man blitz and TL held the ball for FOUR SECONDS before being tackled.  Even further, it was Cam’s man who made the hit, not Bartch’s.

3. As per my first sentence.

4. TL threw the ball after three seconds and two meters behind his target while in the red zone.  We’re putting this on the o-line?

5. We’re laughing because Bartch fell over when it was Fortner’s man who made a slight pressure and TL made the pass anyways?  Ok, I can see why the Jags don’t hit the message boards for coaching advice.

6. Yes, Bartch’s man had the QB hit but, again, TL had a good 2 and 1/2 seconds to throw and tossed it two meters behind his target.

Who knows what the coaches will do, but TL has A LOT he can do to control the pressure he faces.  First, better pocket skills.   Second, HIT THE SHORT SLANTS AND HIT THEM QUICKLY.

He holds the ball far too long, letting plays over-develop and then he wildly misses easy targets anyways.   Better QB play will instantly improve this line by 20%.  Improving this line by 20% will not make the QB play any better.
I think most of us said we would be happy with a season record of 7-10, and in my mind at least, this is what 7-10 looks like.  We went on the road, played a credible opponent, and lost at the end of a competitive game.  It was frustrating, because we were ahead 22-14 in the 4th quarter and we let them have two long drives to win the game.  We had 2 trips to the red zone where we got 0 points, and we gave up a 90 yard drive at the end of the game.  I suppose you could say that if this was last year, we wouldn't have even been competitive.

I really thought our defense would be better than what we saw yesterday.

A lot of our mistakes are correctable.  We have good coaches this year, and I have faith we will correct enough of those mistakes to get 7 wins.  But if we get 7 wins, we will still absorb 10 losses, and losing sucks.

We still need a lot of players.  "With the 10th pick in the first round, the Jacksonville Jaguars select a CB."  Our secondary pretty much sucked yesterday.
