Well. 3 - 7 with the bye week here. Have some interesting games left. We get Baltimore, @Detroit, @Tacks, Dallas, @New York (Jets), @Tinhorns and finish up with the Tacks at home.
Would like to see them somehow scrape up two to three more wins. As that was my goal in 2022 for them. At least six wins.
I think there needs to be some things established this bye week. That's including a few key players and positions.
Offensively:
Is Walker Little going to play at all this year? He's a highly drafted 2nd RD pick. Can we do worse at LT or LG than Walker Little? We seem to need help over there.
Hasty is not that guy. Time to find out why we traded up for Conner. When are his touches supposed to start? Feels like we could do better than Hasty.
Arnold, Engram and Manhertz. Your entire TE room. It's in the market next year. Are we going to start giving them more looks, formations and opportunities to work with to see if one or two of them are worth overpaying to come back in 2023?
Marvin Jones. Love the man. Comes up clutch for Lawrence. With that said. If he's potentially gone next year. What's the plan? Tim Jones maybe? Let's get him some work out there.
Defensively:
Pretty easy for me. Is Allen going to turn the corner and effect the QB beyond pressures or are we going to see if Smoot can handle a heavier workload and still get to the QB. If so, would rather overpay Smoot and make 2023 Allen's Swan Song.
When is Caldwell going to do more with some of these athletes we have? Muma, Lloyd, Cisco and Walker. Let's see some more creativity with rushing and coverages.
You have two games coming up with QBs that can kill you on the ground. Jackson and Wilson. I want to see that he's learned from the Philadelphia game, the Giants game and today's game. They have to get that undercontrol.
Zone defense is not working. The front four cant hit home. What are you doing to fix this? Let's see it down this stretch.

Yeah I don’t like this zone defense stuff.
Dunno if I'll hit on all subjects presented, but a few bits:
I think they've resolve to Little is the utility backup/extra lineman. I don't know what goes on in practice, but Taylor has managed to keep his job in spite of drive-killing penalties or whiffed blocks, which says a heap about Little if he's not even getting the chance to replace him. In all honesty, yesterday Scherff was the one with his hands full early on, but appeared to settle in a bit.
Connor to me is that north-south plodder that is gonna get 2 yards and a cloud of dust. It's a complete misfit for what the O wants to do. I dunno if Hasty isn't getting the reps with the 1s, but his timing seems off on every play. Help is not on the way.
For the D, it's good to see a few rooks getting quality reps, both Muma and Brown were out there a bit yesterday. While it may be injury giving them reps, they are getting valuable experience for the day when the job is theirs to lose. As expected, results were mixed.
I dunno what can be done about the pass rush. While we were outmanned yesterday, blitzing was not a good option. However, throughout the season we've seen that blitzes rarely work, the OLB can't get home or contain QB, and pressure up the middle is nonexistent. I almost wonder if the design is contain more than attack. It's mind boggling.
I'm happy where we are. It's working at the most important position on the field. But for all our effort to build (rebuild?) the defense, it's still spongy soft. I don't know that we are fit to win shootouts each week, nor are we stable enough to smother a team by playing ball control offense. There is still much to be done. But we're getting there.

I like this analysis.
One thing I don't want to see is Walker in coverage so much. This freak athlete needs to be a run and pass disrupter. Does there need to be better Dline/LB coaching? I don't know. It sure seems like it. We had hoped to see Travon breaking out by now.
And we definitely need better personnel in the back end. If they can't play man, we don't need them.
And the perennial need of this team: O line. Can we not see that this is THE Achille's heel of the team? Protect the prince that was promised!!

To the bolded: Thank you. Been preaching this. The kid needs a beat more time and a better semblance of pocket to step up into.
RE: coverage -
They have no one adept in man coverage at the moment. That's why we see too much zone. Campbell is solid in man - but better in zone. After that it really falls off a cliff.
Walker dropping is more dictated by what the offense is doing vs 3-4 personnel, but yeah, would be nice to limit that when possible.
Jags will lose to thier bye week.

Did "salmon" just become a permanent selection in the polling process?

Hi IQ
I hope Doug just gave the team the week off and a chance to loosen up and rest. Hit it hard for Baltimore coming into town. Ravens are a good team but I feel like we could just come out and play good ball and control the game and beat whoever shows up.
The Jags have lost games they should have won, so maybe the jags can win some games some think they should lose. Let us hope. It's time to try and enjoy the season because the offseason is a long wait for some football. Be glad there is still plenty of season to enjoy regardless of the record. I'd like to see some blitzing. Nobody is getting pressure.
