What’s your opinion on Caldwell now?

I'm as bipolar as everyone else.  Lose, and I want to fire half the team.  Win, and I love everybody.  So, obviously, for me, Caldwell is off the hot seat for now.  Not that my opinion makes any difference.  The people in that building and on the practice field are the ones who are qualified to evaluate him.  They're the ones who know what good or bad coaching looks like.

I've been calling for Caldwell's head for the last 2 months...

Honestly, I think I need to eat crow on this one...  He may very well be one of those up and coming DC's that the league doesn't see coming.  At any rate, I don't think we can fire Caldwell anymore, unless the defense completely pisses down their legs on over the next 3 games.

Honestly, if we beat Houston and the D looks good against Houston.  I don't care what else happens.  I just want to beat Houston.  [BLEEP] those gulf coast oil burnt sweat hogs.  LOL  No seriously, I don't hate the city of Houston.  But that franshise...  They need to be taken down a notch.

Not ready to let Caldwell of the hook yet… if the defense does enough to get us into postseason… not even play great and shut teams down just be opportunistic and keep us in games then I think maybe he is worth keeping and developing… if the defense folds against the jets Texans and titans or even 2 of the 3 I think he needs to go…

I think this game against the jets is key for the defense… you have a struggling quarterback.. a team that the last 3 weeks has struggled to run the football. And playing in bad weather conditions which should favor the defense !? Our defense should have success in this game.. if we get torched by Wilson and the jets and look lost doing it like we have at times this year then I would say he needs to go.

And that’s the biggest thing for me when it comes to Caldwell… it’s not that we have given up a lot of points or yards at times.. it’s how completely lost we have looked doing it… so many blown assignments, players running wide open, players out of position or horrid match ups… just bad football and it can’t happen against a bad jets o.
Unless the team decides to switch back to a 4-3 and they decide Caldwell is the wrong man for that scheme, I would be shocked if Pederson cut him loose.

Caldwell definitely looked like he was in over his head for a while, but maybe he's starting to get the hang of it. He'll get another year barring a complete defensive meltdown to end the season. And even then, Pederson is typically pretty loyal to his coaches, right?
I still domt like Caldwell. He needs to run more stunts in obvious passing situations. So tired of seeing our 4 rushers just Rylan a bull rush on third and 8 and get no pressure.
If he can finish the season strong, I’m onboard with keeping him. The D is improving. It’s not built right now to hold opponents to a low score, but he has it tuned enough to keep the offense in the game. Like any rookie, he’s improving as the season wears on. The next few games will be the true measuring stick.
