I don't want to completely diminish his tendency to have peaks and valleys of performance, but I think that better coverage and some interior pressure make a huge difference.
Right now, we may be seeing un uptick in pressures from having Darious Williams kicked outside and QBs are not able to hit that first or second read as often as a result.
Imagine adding a quality nickel and an IDL who disrupts more often.
Yes, I've heard the arguments about having an edge rusher who doesn't need all that help to get home, and they are valid.
I bring up the other positions that compliment our edge rushers because we have so many pieces to add in one offseason, and edge rushers are tougher to find, require more draft capital, need some time as rookies to develop, and are very expensive in free agency.
They are ostensibly going to get a nickel back regardless - so there's no added expense there. So it comes down to where they might find a 3Tech rusher at a price that fits into their draft capital or FA budget.
Defensively they're coming on late against weak tiered offenses. Which is exactly what you're supposed to do. If your opponent is bad offensively? You're supposed to make them look bad. So, kudos to Josh and Co.
I expect them to continue this trend into the season finale this Saturday with all the marbles on the line. Dobbs should struggle against this front seven. Caldwell has been more trigger happy with bringing the pressure as well so it's a good sign to see.
Just keep it going. I like Williams on the outside. Would like to see Lloyd on weakside duties with Walker playing more 3-tech. Especially with Key stacked to his side. I think good things can come out of that formation.
In 1996 it was win and we’re in vs Bobby Herbert. In 2022 it is win and we’re in vs Joshua Dobbs.
In 1996 we faced “Iron Head” Heyward and Jamal Anderson. This year it will be Derrick “200 yards” Henry.
Both games in Jax.
I hope Caldwell throws the sink at Dobbs while run blitzing Henry.
Don’t forget it was the Titans that had to deal with Engram scoring 2 TDs and going for 162 yards.
Josh Allen is very underrated by many on this board. He's a great run defender who is also top 5 in pressures on the season. We should definitley get an extension done. He's still fairly young and can continue to get bet better. On top of that he's a great person who seems to want to be here. We could do A LOT worse at his position.

Man that game was such a soul-sucking drag all the way up until Morten's miss. Hopefully we see a better performance all game long this time around.
And Josh has definitely been affecting the quarterback a lot more lately, even if he hasn't been getting the sack numbers. Clearly he's not the guy that elevates the play of everyone around him like we had hoped, but he's still a good football player - Maybe he's starting to turn into that guy who makes everyone better... One can only hope.
The eye test says this to me: Josh Allen has been a below average pass rusher this year, and most of his career is about average for a starting full time defensive end. He’s a good player overall but he’s not a good pass rusher.
The last couple of games have been better but that’s after being MIA for the previous month. He has 6 sacks in 16 games. Part time pass rush production for a full time starter isn’t good. Last year he has 7 sacks I think.
Like I said, good player but if that’s our best pass rusher then no wonder we’ve struggled getting to the QB in many games this year.
A defensive end that has an 8 game stretch without a sack is not a good pass rusher.

we've also played against less mobile QB in games where we have multi-score leads.
Funny how that works.
He absolutely has. Allen can't do it himself. Go back last 9 weeks defense, DL playing well all of a sudden we start getting sacks funny how that works.

#ShouldHaveTradedHim ..... right? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Still can't believe so many people wanted him gone.
"Hey our pass rush isn't good, but lets trade away the best player on it for the hell of it".
Edit: And yes, extend him now. Don't give him the chance to possibly go off next season and demand an even higher contract.
Seems misleading, but understandable. We need more pocket pushers on the inside. Too many times we generate outside pressure and the QB just steps up and we are way past the play.
JA41 (LOL) has played very well within his last contract year. Let's Pray that we'll be able to resign him to an descent, non expensive contract.
Time Will Tell.
NH3...
Dude. I don't even know anymore. If you would have asked me in October, I would have said, "Cut his [BLEEP]".
But he's come on strong in the last month and a half.
To be honest, he's still on contract for another year. There is no reason to have to make the decision right now. Unless he completely destroys Mahomes this weekend, I think we just let it right in 2023. And then if he plays great in 2023, you can sign or tag him...
I'm just not sure that he's worth paying long term quite yet...

I think I'd rather have him than have to try to replace him. He's got games where he looks sensational but he has games where he disappears. The Josh Allen vs the Bills' Josh Allen last year was spectacular. The Josh Allen from the clots loss this year, not so much.
There is also the component of what Josh Allen wants. He has alway seemed to be mature and have his head on the right way. Plus now the Jags with Pederson have a very good culture and very bright future. He may be willing to take a bit less because of that.

And the Jags had to win the final 5 games to get it.
Oddly enough, the Falcons were 3-13 that year so that game should have been much easier than having to rely on a missed field goal by one of the best kickers to play the game.
The difference between 1996 and 2023 is that this time the Jags had to play the tough part of their schedule winning out whereas the 1996 team was playing against not so good opponents and had to win out as well Both runs have been amazing back in 96 and in 23. Go jags
let’s get it
let’s go!
I hope josh Allen is the chiefs worst nightmare Saturday.

Everyone harps on him disappearing in games.
Not a completely invalid criticism, even if exaggerated.
According to his advanced stats - he "disappeared" in 4 games this season.
One of them was vs KC.

Hopefully he'll turn it on this Saturday and light up Mahomes a few times.
