On the Let's Talk About thread I said that the holdouts against McCarthy were probably just making needless drama to promote their own brands. That was when there were 20 holdouts. Today there are 6. It seems most of them were able to get to yes after getting rules changes they wanted. So that's good. Hopefully they use these rules changes honestly and fairly, as opportunities to see how popular their ideas are. Hopefully they accept constructive criticism, and accept hard no's too. Hopefully they offer more constructive criticism than hard no's to others' ideas. Remains to be seen.
But I think Gingrich and Hastert made the speakership too dictatorial, and Pelosi and Boehner and Ryan didn't do enough to roll that back. So I welcome what I've seen so far. A weak speaker is not a bad thing, as long as someone's setting the agenda and scheduling the votes the House will be fine.
