My wife and I both have experience hiring people for a variety of roles.
No one would ever admit they are stupid, but if they know they don't know much about the job, that can actually be an asset because it makes them teachable. There's such a thing as knowing too much, if it makes the person unwilling to hear about different ways of doing things.
