Are you replacing Jenkins with him?

Does he present better value to our defense replacing Jenkins, or replacing Herndon?

Backup to Jenkins and hopefully become a starter when Jenkins leaves. SS aren’t normally suited for slot WRs. Initially thought he was a CB but he’s not.
And he plays with an edge!!!
This feels like the real W of the draft.

I noticed this too.
A DB that isn't afraid to hit/tackle. Darius vibes?

**aren't normally**

He played nickel in NCAA and graded very well at it

If he's a better nickel than our other options come September he should 100% defend the slot no matter what you think a safety would normally do. LOL

As of now - he should be able to beat the "competition" at the NB position on this roster. I'd much rather see that than him sitting behind a SS who can't cover for [BLEEP]
He may be the answer to “covering” and minimizing the impact of the opponent’s TEs.
I was sold on Branch before the draft, but this looks like a nice alternative.

I don’t think he will play nickel. Heck he might make Jenkins expendable and he becomes our SS.
This was my favorite pick in the draft from what I've seen so far. I have high hopes that he can beat out Tre Herndon for that nickel spot ASAP.
3 hours ago, Trent was asked by a reporter if Johnson will play in the nickel/slot.

His response was, “he was in the slot a lot bc of how they ran the defense, but he’s a safety.” “He wasn’t man covering.” “He’s more of a box type guy”

Johnson will not be our nickel corner. He was drafted as a safety and that’s where he will play. Safeties don’t play nickel lol.

Trent went on to say Braswell will compete at the nickel spot and play special teams. He also said he has a lot of explosion in his body and he’s really quick in a short area, which you have to be at nickel.
This might be the steal of the draft…

Thank you
We'll see how the coaches feel in September I guess

I hope one or both of these secondary guys works out

Really wish they would have spent more capital on nickel
*shrug*
I think he is given a shot to compete for the nickel along with Herndon, Junior, Halett and Braswell.

I just want somebody in that spot that dosen't consistently give up 40+ yard passing plays on a weekly basis.
Antonio Johnson dropping to Pick #160, in Round 5, was one of the many surprises of the 2023 Draft. It probably is one of those situations in which too much emphasis by NFL team draft decision makers was put on Athletic testing.

Before the Combine and the remaining part of the Pre-Draft process, Antonio Johnson was projected to be selected in the latter part of Round 1 in at least 3 Mock Drafts.

Easy Pickings for the opponents offense. SMH

Trent said he will not compete at the nickel position. He said Johnson is a box safety.
Unless we get lucky, Herndon will be starting at nickle . Not to be mean, but at least he plays hard.
