I looked it up and you're right.  We don't save any money by cutting him.
Interesting.

Over the Cap is saying his contract was fully guaranteed, but spotrac is showing $10.3 million was guaranteed (signing bonus + 2021 salary + 2022 salary) meaning we could save his 2023 salary of $2,429,720 if we cut him.

I'm not sure which is correct.
I would rather cut him in lieu of production. 3 sacks after 3 seasons.

Derrick Harvey produced 8 sacks after 3 seasons and was let go.

No way under the sun he makes this team this season.

That had to be one of the worst drafts in team history. Teams often miss on their 1st rounders, but to have been SO WRONG twice is hard to do.

I mean: in 2012 the Browns took Trent Richardson at 3 and then Brandon Weeden at 21. Two years later they took Justin Gilbert at 8 and Johnny Football at 22. But, thats what makes them the Browns, I guess.
This kid is younger than Ventrell Miller.

Spotrac in the notes also says Fully Guaranteed, so I don't think they have it right. I saw an article somewhere before the draft that projected him on the team only because his salary is guaranteed this year. If it really isn't then the $1.8 dead cap wouldn't prevent his release IMO.
Hopefully he turns it around, but I’m not optimistic. He is young and seems to have good character. Wishing you the best in a contract year Chaisson!

I didn't pay attention to the full notes. Spotrac seems to be contradicting itself a bit.
The full notes say:

Contract Notes:
  • $10.3 million guaranteed (signing bonus + 2021 salary + 2022 salary)
  • Fully Guaranteed
  • 5th-year option available
I don't know if the second bullet point was supposed to apply to the 5th year option because I have read elsewhere, " The fifth-year option for Chaisson was a fully guaranteed $12.141 million for 2024."

Spotrac also shows the breakdown for 2023 season as:

Pre-6/1 Release 2023 Dead Cap: $1,816,293 2023 Cap Savings: $2,429,720
Pre-6/1 Trade 2023 Dead Cap: $1,816,293 2023 Cap Savings: $2,429,720
Post-6/1 Release 2023 Dead Cap: $1,816,293 2024 Dead Cap: $0 2023 Cap Savings: $2,429,720
Post-6/1 Trade 2023 Dead Cap: $1,816,293 2024 Dead Cap: $0 2023 Cap Savings: $2,429,720

I can't find a third source for the breakdown of the contract. I did find an article talking about it that said it was fully guaranteed, but they referenced Over the Cap as their source.

If 2023 salary isn't actually guaranteed, I would value the cap space. If it is, we might as well keep him for depth/special teams unless some players can beat him out at OLB during TC/preseason because as of right now, he still is our 3rd best OLB option.

Desperation is an ugly look.
