I was looking back at the games from 1996 and noticed a lot of similarities in the Ravens game. Here’s a few of them.

Both seasons the Jaguars traveled to Baltimore.

In 1996 the game was played on November 24th, in 2022 the game was played on November 27th.

In 1996 the score was 28-25 in overtime. In 2022 the Jaguars went for 2 in order to avoid overtime. (If they make the extra point, the game goes into overtime).

In 1996 the Jaguars scored 28 points. In 2022 the Jaguars scored 28 points.

In 1996 the Jaguars closed out the season with a 5 game win streak. In 2022 the Jaguars closed out with a 5 game win streak.

In 1996 the turning point of the season was their win at Baltimore. The same can be said about the 2022 Jaguars.

In 1996 the Jaguars passed for 292 yards. In 2022 the Jaguars passed for 294 yards.

In 1996 the Jaguars punted for 204 yards. In 2022 the Jaguars punted for 206 yards.

In 1996 Brunell had 28 completed passes. In 2022 Lawrence had 29 completed passes.

In 1996 Hollis made 2 FG’s
In 2022 Patterson made 2 FG’s

In 1996 the Jaguars won the game on a miracle missed FG which put them in the playoffs. In 2022 the Jaguars won the game on a miracle scoop and score which put them in the playoffs.
Wow ... this is pretty amazing and if you are the one that actually came up with these comparative statistics then major kudos to you !!!

I was actually living in DC in 1996 and went to that game in Baltimore.   Had to be in the crappiest stadium (Memorial Stadium) in the NFL in the most rundown part of Baltimore.  It still felt nostalgic since I grew up a Steelers fan in Pittsburgh and recall a lot of great games being played there against Bert Jones and Lydell Mitchell

Yes, nice work JF24.

I love how you've taken on the role of "Jags Historian" on the message board.

The ending of the ravens/Jags game in '96 went down like this:

With seconds left in the fourth Q - Matt Stover misses a 49 yard attempt that would have broken a 25-25 tie.
Jags win the OT toss and end up punting on their first drive
Next drive -  the ravens are THIS close to field goal range when Earnest Byner is hit by K Hardy and fumbles - (Kelvin Pritchett recovers for Jags)

Jags need to move the ball about 45 yards or so to get into FG range and a chance to win
The drive was anchored by runs from one of my most favorite early Jaguars players, Natrone Means.
He had runs of 6 yards, 7 yards, and 8 yards to help get the Jags in position for a game winning kick in overtime.
(Brunell passes to McCardell and Willie Jackson also aided the game winning drive)
Hollis hits the 34 yarder
Game Over

Totally forgot about the Byner fumble (... again).
Glad you guys are liking the history posts and yes I gather all my own info.

Not to get way off topic but the Jaguars won in similar fashion against the Broncos in 2004. The score was 7-6. Quinton Griffin (rookie from Oklahoma) fumbled the ball while the Broncos were on about the 25 yard line and well within FG range with :37 seconds left in the game.

Denver decided to run another play to get a little closer for a Jason Elam FG and disaster struck….Griffin fumbled the handoff from Jake Plummer and Akin Ayodele recovered the football. The Jaguars kneel out the clock and win the game 7-6.

Just proves that the NFL is about money first, I can't see any other way he'd have ever played for Art again after he ran him outta town.
Ozzie Newsome was one heckuva salesman and GM.
Byner wasn’t hit by Hardy on that play. Vinny fumbled the snap and he tried to fall on it, but Hardy also tried to fall on it and the football squirted out behind them. Byner tried to fall on it, and Jeff Lageman hit him as the ball continued to roll on the ground and Eddie Robinson recovered the ball.

I sure hope you are relaying this after rewatching a video. If that is memory recall, you've got some Beautiful Mind stuff goin on up in the thinkmeat.

I remembered the play and then looked at the video to confirm.

official box score attributed tackle to Kevin Hardy
That's why I listed it
Very interesting. Unbelievable runs to make the playoffs.
The Jaguars also won in similar fashion up in Pittsburgh in 2005. The game was tied 17-17 in overtime as the Steelers received the kickoff and ran it all the way back to the Jaguars 26 yard line. Rashean Mathis saved a TD by pushing Morgan out of bounds.

The Steelers tried to get a little closer for a FG but Parker fumbled the ball but the Steelers recovered it. Then Maddox turned to hand the ball off and he fumbled the ball. Reggie Hayward recovered it.

The Jaguars couldn’t get anything going on offense so they punted it back to the Steelers. On 2nd and 10 Mathis stepped in front of a Maddox pass and returned it for a game winning 41 yard TD.

Player of the game - Rashean Mathis who had an int for a TD, a blocked punt, and a game saving tackle on kickoff.
