Backups don't plan. Coaches do. They were playing against Cincy's backups.

The starters on both sides of the ball looked like they were trying a few new things. I think the offense stuck with the run to test Beachum and Joeckel. For the 1st string defense I saw a few different alignments and combinations I hadn't seen before. I also noticed they seemed to be trying to force pressure with a basic front with more man. The 2nd and 3rd stringers had the luxury of several blitz packages and stunts called.

I don't know if it was a bad play call or offensive lineman's error, but on one play a Bengals starter had a huge hole to reach T.J. Yeldon and was completely unblocked. Beachum and Joeckel were blocking other Bengals players.

Michele Tafoya asked Blake Bortles what went wrong in the first half. He said everyone just played bad.

It was suppose to be a pass off (blocking assignment) from one lineman to another so the first could get to the second level. The second linemen didn't get there in time or just forgot his assignment.

Pass off blocking assignment on a running play?
