Full Version: Building an NFL stadium

In light of the fact that the Jaguars organization is in the process of the planning and execution of a stadium rebuild I thought I'd share the following video that could give us an idea of just what goes in to building an NFL stadium from the ground up. It's a 3.5 hour video that details the building of the LV Raiders new stadium.

I've watched an hour of it so far and it's pretty fascinating to see everything that has to happen to make something like this a reality. Of course, I like to know the how and why of things so that makes it interesting for me. The sheer magnitude and ambition of getting this project done not in five years but in 31 months, is pretty crazy. Any of us who have built houses or worked on any construction project knows delays are inevitable and I don't know yet if they finished on time but that's an insane timeline for a project this large.

Jacksonville is not Las Vegas so the organization and all the trades won't have many of the same challenges but they'll have plenty their own. If they can even get started. Here's hoping!

Anyway, enjoy!

I hope you enjoy it! It didn't even occur to me when I posted this that this is the stadium for the Super Bowl. Lol.
I sure hope we make a better playing surface than Vegas.

We already have quality surfaces in our stadium that is being rebuilt in the same footprint.
Why would that situation do anything but improve?

If they are covering might go with fake grass and then it would be worse

Current design is a retractable roof with "passive" cooling.
"Fans will enter through a subtropical Floridian park, leading them to the main concourse" is a phrase used in the description. Also this "The venue will celebrate Jacksonville's natural landscape and climate..."

Doesn't sound like fake turf is in the plans to me.

No apology required at all!

I don't have all the answers and I'm speculating. What info I can find does seem to point toward a continued natural surface.

The Raiders' natural grass field actually rolls out of the stadium after game day and gets natural sunlight until it's rolled back into the stadium 48 hours before game day. It's a pretty cool design.

Arizona's stadium started that trend several years ago and it is indeed a really awesome design

I wonder if they have a separate surface below that for things like the monster truck shows or high school FB games

@@, but only kinda
