So actual questions:

How good is he run blocking?
Can he do both power and zone schemes?
Does he allow flexibility with pulling schemes that add more flexibility to the PA and rushing looks?
Will he be good with Florida heat?
How recent is that most recent concussion given 6 in his playing career?

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad they addressed the position. I just want a back up plan.

Unfortunately - the back up plan is Fortner

And Morse's concussion history suggests he'll be needed.

When healthy - Morse is a much better run blocker than Fortner and slightly less of an upgrade in protection.
From what I can tell - he will let guys through to pressure the QB - but not with so many complete whiffs/immediate pressures like we saw from Fortner.

According to Bills beat writers the Bills began the season in 2023 running lots of inside zone and later shifted to more gap stuff. James Cook had lots of yardage running between the tackles. So it would at least appear that Morse can do both well.
Yeah, what I gather from pursuing Morse versus another candidate is that they haven't completely given up on Fortner and will give him at least this year to reinforce the pillows hopefully with steel beams.

Thanks. I love the run blocking versatility. But yeah I would love a better back up option than Fortner.

Genuinely my new favorite poster right here.

Doug was the OC in KC when Morse was there. So he will be comfortable.  Second coming of Dave Widell

Fortner could easily be on the trading block come the draft. I'd still see a good opportunity to take the Morse replacement this year, though likely not JPJ like we were mostly all hoping. One of the second day guys who could sit at least a year and both learn and develop behind Morse? Jump on it.
BROCK [BLEEP] BOWERS

Last year's worst starting center could fetch a late 7th. I'd just keep him, hope he pumps some iron, and try him at swing guard.

Maybe, but young guys get second chances. We just traded for a bad back up QB after all.

Fortner is a good backup center.  He knows the offense, he knows the line calls, and he has experience with the other 4 linemen.  And he's on a 3rd round salary.  That's why I don't mind keeping him as a backup.

I agree on those points, I just think we need to put the next starter on the roster this year so we can move on from Morse if he hits the wall after 1 more year. If he doesn't work out in 2024 I'd rather run out the new rookie early than go back to the guy who really bombed hoping he's better.

But it's not necessary to get rid of Fortner to do that.  Fortner can also back up at OG, and the new center prospect could possibly also back up at OG.

True, I just have little faith in Fortner to be any good this next season and would rather a clean break to move on. If we can recoup some value by making part of a trade I would be for it.

To any scouts reading this

Fortner has outstanding ability that is being quenched by the jacksonville climate,  his potential is able to be opened with a trade in the form of a 4th round pick

Nice try...but I'm pretty sure scouts have game tape!

Considering Fortner played guard and only one year at center in college, I’m thinking he would make a decent OG backup. Besides, who would trade for him?

Someone who thinks he can fix his problems. Like I said, happens all the time. The jests just traded for a tackle today, it was a swap of 4th round picks and a 6th. Yeah, Fortner isn't good, but he's young, experienced, and cheap. That's some attractive qualities for some coach who wants to rehab him.
