Great cap situation, having to let go of talented players, back to back winning seasons and hoping for more this year! What a great new era in Jags football. After decades of misery, we are finally competitive team year in and year out and many of you on here want the guy that’s pulled all together fired!?! Glass half full here.

Duuuuvaaallllll!! Go Jags, let’s rock it this year!! Can’t wait until September.
How did they notify him?
Called him in the office or by text message
Can't disagree with this move, but I liked Zay during his time here. Trevor seemed to have a good comfort level with him. He is an interesting guy- seems very bright, but struggled with some mental health issues. I wish him well!

The 2023 drops were a mild concern.
He's been overrated by the people on this board and Jacksonville in general for a while. How is almost dead last in drop% a "mild concern"?

He's good but nothing special. He was shopped and literally no one wanted him. 11 million for a 4th string WR who has bad drops is not it. He's made some amazing catches here in Jacksonville but it's time to move on. Thanks for 2022 and I wish you the best of luck.

I guess it was my lying eyes. Zay was a more reliable wr than we have seen with the jags over the years in my humble opinion . I’m still worried about how wr injuries was a super significant factor in ruining the great season in 23.

He just wasn't consistent. He had some really big games (Dallas and Baltimore) in 2022 but really was a roller coaster. His play was propped up by crazy catches (that tipped TD against the tacks) and his personality. He was extremely likeable but I think he's also someone who can have their game replaced.

And for 11 million dollars? No thanks.

LOL

All the folks that hated on him when signed trynna puff out their chest after he made your criticism look bad in 2022.

he had one bad year of drop percentage that skewed the mark. He wasn't some consistent ball dropper. Go look at his advanced stats over the seasons.

This is about salary, injury, and lack of ST value more than his value as a receiver.

No biggie - but don't try to cherry pick some bull [BLEEP] to paint your revisionist history.

Also means BTJ will be starting Week 1.

Thomas and Gabe on the outside with Kirk in the slot.

Was this even a question?
Zay was a good player who ran into multiple issues last year. I think he will be missed.

What exactly is being cherry picked?

Was he not 67 out of 68 in drop%?

He had 1 good year in his career and it was 2022. 7 of his 8 career seasons were average or worse. He is what he is. He's just a guy and I think his production will be replaced in this offense by an UDFA.

Hahaha, Got em
Gotta get cheaper and younger.
Wish him the best wherever he goes.
Yeah his cap hit was just excessive for a receiver number 4
I liked Zay, but I wouldn't say this is a big loss. Before coming here he looked fairly pedestrian. He made some big catches we needed and Trevor seemed to like him. Hopefully Gabe Davis can fill that role and excel in Pedersons offense like Zay did.
Bit weird seeing people "fight" on this MB when I am not one of them lol.

Meh, good 2022, average 2023? I like Zay but I doubt we will miss him at all.
I had trade questions but those appear to be answered earlier in this thread.

Guess this leaves the door open for some of our young 2nd years and the UDFA coming in to get time.

I thought of this as well. It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up there.
Zay was very likable and I think that's why people are sad to see him go. He's a depth reciever on a good team and for what he was being paid I think that could be used better elsewhere. I agree with basically everything cleatwood has been saying. He was never good I'm not sure what's making people think that. Maybe because we've had such bad receivers over the years.

He was good in great games back in 2022. We don't make the play-off's without some of the catches he made. In particular, the games against Baltimore, Dallas and the road win against the tacks.

Had he help up physically in 2023? We might all be singing a different tune. Things just didn't workout for him in year two of his contract. It's the NFL. These things happen. Would be funny if he ended back up in Buffalo.
This is disappointing. I get it from a business point of view but Zay has been a great addition for us since he arrived. We've had plenty of FA's who haven't been good business but Zay wasn't one of those. He had some great plays, was one of our best RZ weapons. He struggled with injuries and off field issues last year but he definitely seemed to have Trevor's trust. Just felt he still had something to offer us.

Thank you Zay and good luck. I'm sure someone will happily pick him up.
