No it's not, it's a moronic idea.
Some would say, maybe even argue, that those two words are very similar in nature.
LOL...Mike Tomlin gets praised for not having a losing season...yet the Jags would fire a GM and head coach after 3 winning seasons?
As a new fan to the franchise...that seems like crazy talk to me.
If it were the Chiefs, Cowboys, Eagles or 49ers...yeah...I'd get the fans considering TRYING to upgrade. But not the Jags. It's HARD to consistently win in the NFL. If you get a GM and head coach that can give you winning seasons consistently, you keep em.
9-8 gets nobody canned, but if the draft picks after 1st round continue to absolutely suck Baalke needs to go. The lack of depth on the team is obvious and there is no excuse given the amount of draft picks the team has had over past couple years.

I do think we need to see impact from a Bigsby and/or Strange this year plus usefulness and promise from a couple of 2024 picks. (i.e. solid rotational snaps from Maason Smith and good stuff from Jarrion Jones)
If that stuff happens - we probably aren't getting too caught up in a 9-8 record. The roster got better on paper as did the defensive scheme. Let's see if it plays out that way on the field.
Draft pick impact vs FA impact is worth watching.

I'mma stop you right there with a resounding YES! This franchise, an historically bad one, has had two consecutive statistically winning seasons for the first time in two decades. I don't know where this sense of entitlement came from last year, but these people need to accept that winning in the NFL is hard and it's much easier to go from 9-8 to 3-14 than it is to go to 12-5. Last year is the case study in just how quickly good fortune can collapse in this League with just a few injuries and some unlucky breaks.
Full transparency, I don't care for how Baalke operates. He makes the easy difficult for no reason other than that it's his personality to do so. I don't like how he drafts. I do like his work in free agency and would suggest that he's over-promoted beyond being Pro Personnel Director. However, we did have a rapid turn around and it seems that Doug can win with the guys Baalke brought in, so I think it's borderline absurd for long time fans of this team to act like we should be winning just because and if we are "only" .500ish everyone needs to be fired. The Basement is calling and it's really easy to fall down those stairs again.
+1
So well said. I don't understand why some fans think we should be winning the SB at the moment. We are a young team that is improving. You see parts of the roster that are and parts that still have a ways to go. This isn't a roster that's in a win now mode and loaded with superstars yet. The AFC is so tough right now and being in the playoff hunt is a tough challenge. There aren't many 'gimme' games at the moment.
It's so much easier to see a good team implode and have to rebuild than just go through 2 years of drafting and FA and suddenly win the SB. The Chiefs, Niners, Eagles, hell even the Cowboys have been incredibly stable organisations building and adding to the roster over a number of years to get to where they are.
I have so much faith in this team and see what we are building and am here for the ride long term.
No.

Depends for me, if we are struggling at the end of the year and go on another 1-7 season ending run I’m gonna be on the move along train. If it’s steady through the year and we just play a hard schedule finishing 9-8 that’s not a bad thing.
Going 9-8 means we are somewhat competitive and look like an actual NFL team
Which is more than I can say about most of the Jags teams the decade before Doug and Baalke arrived
My line of thinking is this, if you're managing to hover right around, or, slightly above .500? That's your floor. Which is great to have. Would we rather see double digit wins and play off berths? Absolutely. And, to be fair, that's still within a play-off seed with a 9 - 8 record.
I think they'll finish with 10 wins at the minimum this year though. They don't have a weak schedule on paper, however, they also don't have a difficult schedule on paper. Even some of these "tough" teams we face this year have a lot of pressure to live up to for the second year in a row.
The tinhorns have the bullseye on their back.
The Packers have to live up to their hype.
The Bills have to show what they can do after a major roster shake up this off season.
The Dolphins really didn't impress against good teams last year during their run and Tua is injury prone.
The Vikings have a new QB situation.
The Jets having a returning Aaron Rodgers.
The Eagles have to rebound from a really, really bad late season collapse and play off let down.
The Browns don't have Flacco this year.
These are all interesting games on paper. It wouldn't surprise me either way if we ended up 9 - 8 or 12 - 5 this year. It really wouldn't. The key is this, RUNNING THE FOOTBALL. That's about it for me. I think not having that element to this offense last year absolutely crippled it. They have to push forward, they have to control the battle at the LOS at least 75%+ of the time, or, they'll be struggling to maintain a .500 record all season.
Fully expect this defense to clobber opponents this year. I don't expect to see games where we have to score on every possession to keep pace with some of the better offenses. Guys just need to get it done this year. A lot of "prove it" type of contract situations up for grabs across the board. I expect to see the best performances out of Lawrence, Etienne, Cisco, Campbell and a few others this year. I expect to see night and day differences in Strange and Bigsby as well.
Devin Lloyd is also probably the most slept on defender we have on this roster. He's poised to do good things this season. Especially with his weight getting up there to handle more physicality.
if our defense ends up being as good as its looking on paper, the Teal of doom will lbe even stronger this season. The biggest question for jags not to the injury bug is can we get great on all sides of the ball. ussallsy our offensse is good, and defense stinks, then next year offensse is good, and defense is stinks. last season our defense was good, and kept us in lots of games, the problom was our offensse couldn't score points ,it was either we turn it over in red zone ,or settled for fgs.
if the trend contintues i expect our offensse to be good ,but our defense won't be good. key word if. whos to say that jags can't be good on all sides of ball if team stays healthy.
^ well said Wolfie
I think if we have a late season collapse like last year there will be some changes. no matter what, I think Doug is safe even if we go 6-11.
What interests me is that many of you don’t seem to have high expectations, I think it’s year 3 of Doug and Trev we need to have a better season than last year - playoff appearance at the least
Honestly, if 9-8 gets them to the playoffs, that will be annoying but I'm fine with it.
I just want another playoff appearance this year.
The question may have been better served if the scenario presented was Jags going 7-10 ...... then asking, who (if anyone) gets fired? I think Pederson is safe, barring any type of major fallout amongst the players after a 5 or less win season.
Go for broke. Trevor is on year 4. We are coming up to winning season. We need to win the division and make a deeper run if not to the Super Bowl this year. Make aggressive roster moves.
