Savage played well at nickel before injury week one. Will they put him there, or are they worried enough about Antonio Johnson to put him at SS?
Could Tashaun Gipson take over at FS if Cisco continues to struggle?
Crazy stuff to watch considering we thought we had that position coming on strong prior to reg. season.
Gipson comes back week 6 and should slide in at Free letting Cisco replace Johnson at Strong. Savage is better at nickle than safety IMO.
Why are we so certain a 34 year old Gipson is just going to slide in and be an upgrade?

Week one it was Campbell and Darby outside and Savage at nickel.
I assume you ask because they now have to consider a Campbell/Brown outside package and that leaves Darby available.
Nothing in the play of Savage week one suggests to me that he should be supplanted by Darby at nickel.
In other words - if you're cool with starting a backup player performing well outside over Darby - you should be cool with starting a guy who played well at nickel over him too.

To be clear - some stat head posted that 9% number the other day and pundits are running with it without reading the chart correctly
The 9% number is for motion at the snap - not pre-snap motion. Many are all about twitter believing we are using pre-snap motion at only 9%
Jags use of motion is just below middle of the pack at 49%
They should improve both numbers IMO, but after seeing that OL look like the keystone cops last season and several times in weeks one though 3, I think they dialed it back hoping to aid execution.
I hold out hope that as the execution improves, so will the use of pre-snap and at-snap motion.
Saw another chart that shows our offensive efficiency is up a bit with use of motion, so it could help. Hope we see it soon.

I'm not here to argue with you. I actually noticed that we do run a motion receiver more often now.
But... Just to be an [BLEEP] hole... The more advanced offenses get to the line with 20 seconds on the play clock and then run multiple motions... I think that's what we're missing sometimes. Not all the time. But it's clear when you watch the better offenses how they run motion. It's much more complex than what we do.
All this to say, at least we're getting better? We have a lot to go. But there's still a chance we can run off 3 wins in a row. We can still be right back in this playoff hunt.

Our use of motion is not increased at all.
It is about 2% down from last year.
So whatever it was you thought you saw, you didn't see that.
Personally - I'm lobbying for using it more but guessing we don't because of the bad execution -
Plays coming in late, or offense being slow to get set at the line at time, that certainly doesn't help.

The more advanced offenses do multple motions because they get to the line early. Like I said.
And maybe I'm wrong with how much more single motion we do now compared to the past. But it looked to me that we did much more single motion Sunday that I've noticed in prior weeks. Mainly because Trevor got the call in and brought the team to the line earlier than he has been doing.
All that to say, our offense is basic compared to the more advanced offenses that are able to come up to the line with 20 seconds left on the play clock. Those teams run multiple motions pre-snap. Execution is a two way street, to paraphrase the HC that loves to drive players under the bus. Calling plays early enough for the team to come up to the line with 20 seconds is execution. Doug's staff seems to lack that type of execution. But that can be a discussion for another day.
I hope what you're lobbying for, which many here have been saying since last year, will come to fruition. I'm just happy that you are beginning to come around.
Cheers!

I'm not coming around to any of your gibberish, I'm just stating simple stats and a few opinions.
You're also trying to redefine what the word execution means in football here and you're just wrong.
Execution traditionally refers to what the players execute on the field. It doesn't refer to coaching or getting plays to the QB.
Please stop trying to make every single damned post into some bashing of this offensive coaching staff. It is so tiresome.
Getting plays in on time was not a problem Sunday. Tons of snaps with 12-19 seconds on the play clock when I rewatched.
Hopefully they've gotten past that issue for good this year.
I doubt that has much effect on the staff deciding to use motion more often, because it is the inability of the players to execute motion without penalties or mistimed positioning that are the most likely reason it is not being used more.

As for the word "execution", it means whatever the heck you want it to mean. It's called "coach speak".
Unless when Doug decides to throw players under the bus. I'm not trying to define "execution". I'm just pointing out that based on the way Doug doesn't tell the truth about anything, it's clear that "execution" is a term up for debate.
I know. I'm tiresome. I am critical of the coaches. I find other posters "tiresome" in their critiques of Trevor Lawrence. But, I still choose to engage with them in a respectful manner. You want to make up some personal definition of the word execution to suit your narrative - go for it
Coaches make very clear distinction between their responsibility and player execution all the time in interviews, pressers, and public discourse. I'm sorry you haven't picked up on that context.
I just don't care. It's impossible to have meaningful discussion with someone who constantly tries to shift everything to suit an obsessive compulsion.

I started Trevor over Cousins this week in my fantasy team thinking this will be the week Trevor gets back on track. Ugh lol. I want Trev to score at least 3 TDs and 250+ yards against this trash defense without their best player. At some point he has to look like a real franchise QB and show he can play up to his potential. Hopefully we don't see the little spin move that we have seen the last few weeks with him seeing ghost. It's crazy to me how bad his accuracy is right now, he has to hit the throws this week.

Definitely a rhythm offense. We do better with motion and getting pre snap reads (Trevor). Have to have some urgency and consistency. Again, it comes down to the playcaller and Trevor getting the O huddled up and communicating to everyone what's going on.
