30th total defense
30th opp yds per game allowed.
24th. 3rd down conversion pct. I would bet we are first in long third downs allowed.
28th 4th down conversions allowed.
25th first downs per play
28th opp plays per game. Hence long drives allowed.
30th in time of possession, some of that is on the offense but still bad.
31st passing yds allowed
Ryan Neilson hire not looking great so far. Yea secondary is banged up. His blitz packages suck also.
The offense def doesn't help them at crucial times I will admit.
It just seems like they can never stop any team when really needed.

You are not wrong.
Trevon played well today though.
Playing man while up 14 with 5 minutes to go and letting the Colts get back in the game was laughable
The defense has been horrendous. Even though there have been some low score games, the offenses in those games have had their way with the Jags defense. Long scoring drives and giving up huge plays when it matters most. To be successful, Ryan Nielson apparently needs an elite defensive line that consistently gets pressure without a blitzer. He is not going to get that here. So either he needs to adjust his philosophy to play like a more traditional defense with a mix of blitzes, zone, and man, or he needs to go.
Our safety’s can’t cover and are out of position. There is plenty to fix if the jags want to go on a run.

I think he finally did blitz this game, but it was not much if I’m not mistaken. He needs to blitz more. Zone blitz

Most of our games this season have had the distinct feel of the opponent easing off the throttle and coasting to the easy victory against a team they knew wouldn't put up a real fight.
If the offense had played better and scored more then so would the opponent.
This is what three years of Baalke GM looks like. There were no jars on the shelf to step in when the big money free agents couldn't be afforded anymore.
Defense will be a concern moving forward until it's not. Next two weeks are going to be interesting for them in London. Chicago just had their first major breakout game offensively yesterday and New England can't score points to save it's life on offense.
I know people are excited for Ventrell Miller, but, it feels like this defense operates and flows differently when Foye is not out there manning the middle of it all. I think their needs to be some serious consideration moving forward on how they're going to approach teams from a base package perspective as well as limiting the amount of rotations.
Seeing Nielsen on the sideline besides himself, dejected and huffing and puffing in stress looking over his tablet without being around his actual squad tells me a lot about him as a coach. So far, he's not better than Caldwell, and, it continues to show Doug's poor networking and lack of knowledge on how an NFL caliber defense should conduct itself.
He truly lucked out with Jim Schwartz when he was with the Eagles.
Safety play is bad. Period. That's going to need to be addressed ASAP mid season. I am looking forward to having Wingard and Gipson in the line-up. I have seen enough of Johnson. I don't think he has it at this level. I am already eyeing Alabama's safeties, Mukuba in Texas, Winston Jr. at Penn St. & Moore out of Michigan to draft at some point.
Cisco has just been a guy this year. He's not making any plays on the football. He's not really impacting the game as he has in the past. Not impressed with him at all. Getting Campbell back could help on the outside. Should see a natural staggering down effect play wise on the depth chart with his return. Again, though, for me, it's all about getting Foye back in the middle and figuring out where to put Miller.
Miller has earned a starting spot. In run defense alone. He's the best player out there. I would look to move him to an outside position if possible. Also, again, where is the damn rush or presence from the interior of this defense? I am not seeing Hamilton. I am not seeing Armstead. I am not seeing Ledbetter or RHH. There's nothing going on with those rookies they drafted between Smith and Jefferson as well.
I have faith in this defense. Our LBs are good. We have great edge pressure. We are good at stopping the run.
The Secondary is suspect, no doubt. But I think, with Savage back, and Buster coming strong, we have the potential to exposing the bears offense.
This defense starts slow, comes on strong in the middle part of the game, and then [BLEEP] the bed at the end of the game. They have long periods of keeping the game close. And then they either get worn out or get exposed. I think Neilsen can get it right. London is the place we turn this D around.
Nielsen is in the first season here with very few players he selected or gave input on. Let's give the guy a touch of a break.
I think the defense will be adequate with the return of Campbell. Give the young guys the year to acclimate and bring in some additional talent next offseason and they'll be better than adequate next year.

Said perfectly
We need more interior push
And for goodness sake if we give up another 3rd & 10+ yard the fans should riot

No can do. The whole point of his hiring was to be better than Mike Caldwell. So far? He's losing the narrative.
Need to see better out of him this month. These next two games in London give him a chance to reset and get the defense back to close to or under 20 PPG in my opinion.
If he's worth any salt that is.

Only thing I will say about Nielsen is he does come across as no [BLEEP] given type of bloke.
I'm confident changes will be made

You don't just change the scheme over night, the old guys are learning and the new ones are young. It will likely be next year after another offseason before it all comes together.

He does. I think he'll respond and adjust accordingly. He took a lot of grief for the BUF loss and they responded in HOU by being better. They forced 5 punts in that 2nd half.

Based on Khan's comments earlier this season and the fact that Doug only gave Caldwell two years tells me the expectations and standards are much higher than what most of us think or feel.
It's win now. Not next year. The wait and see nonsense is over. If he's worth his salt?
He figures out a way to confuse and bury Caleb Williams in London and he ABSOLUTELY figures out a way to dominate a one dimensional offense that averages 13 PPG and is 31st in overall offense with New England.
