Quote:I'll add a couple more. Stevie Ray Vaughn at Curtis Hixon Hall in Tampa in 1987. The Greg Allman Band opened. They were good, but their guitar player (Dan Toller, I believe), didn't come close to Stevie. His soul poured into the strings, though the pickups and cord, and out of the amplifier.

Joe Satriani at Jannus Landing in St. Pete in 1988. Another show that left me wondering why I bothered playing guitar. It was like watching a magician.

Got to see Satriani, Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen at G3 a few years back. There is a level of guitar mastery that most cannot fathom until they experience G3.

Satch's "Engines of creation" and "Surfing With The Alien" are two of the best guitar rock albums ever produced... To see Vai and Malmsteen back him up on "Engines" was orgasmic.

I saw Yngwie with ACDC quite a few years ago.  He's a technical master but his playing doesn't do much for me.  It's all technical brilliance and not much feel.  Give me Satriani or Vai any day!

I saw that show at the House Of Blues in Orlando. That was 2003, I believe? I have caught most of those G3 shows and yes, they are a must for anybody who is a guitar geek.

He can crank out some decent blues when he wants to. To me, his biggest problem is that he hasn't changed one bit. He's stuck in 1985, from his outfit to the delay pedal self-oscillation bit he's done every show since the beginning. I just saw him earlier this year with Vai, Wylde, Bettencourt and Abasi, and as soon as he appeared on the stage, I felt like it was the mid '80s again.
Quote:story of the year is pretty rad live

They're insane!
Quote:Actually, I'd like to hear from those that may prefer symphonies or other types of concerts as well.

Lucia Micarelli (violinist plays Kashmir) -- starts at the 2:37 mark

The first time I heard Beethoven's Ninth Symphony live.   It made my hair stand on end.

Beethoven was the original rock star. Danny Alkana recorded 5th symphony, find it on YouTube, you will thank me.
Best concert I ever attended was Trivium back in 2009-2010. I had a blast jumping and headbanging and screaming the words. No moshing though. I'm over that.

Has anyone ever seen Dream Theater? I saw them back in 2011 and they put on one hell of a show. Funny thing is, I went to that show to see the opening band, not them. I left that concert a new fan.

Yngwie is an egomaniacal cokehead who hits women. And yes.. he is stuck in 1985.

Dream Theater is fantastic. I've been listening to them since the early '90s. I somehow have yet to see them live, but I've seen John Petrucci a couple of times.
Quote:Was this the show at the Morocco Shrine Auditorium. where The Breeders walked off the stage because people were throwing shoes at the stage?

I was at that show. Kurt Cobain coming out to tell everyone to "keep your [BLEEP] shoes on man." Hilarious stuff. Saw Nirvana the first time they came here with Mudhoney at Einstein's A Go-Go around 88-89ish. Everyone was there for Mudhoney but everybody was raving about Nirvana after the show.

Saw an impromptu Nine Inch Nails concert at the Edge in Orlando the night after the Jim Rose Circus did their act there. Only way to get tickets was to buy a voucher at Jim Rose the night before. Best $10 I ever spent. Show was so loud I thought the enamel was peeling off of my teeth. Good times.
Seen Metallica twice now live since 2017. Not bad. Saw a lot of my favorite bands from Rockville here just back in May. Tool was awesome. Black Label Society was great. Judas Priest was great. Flogging Molly was pretty cool. Korn was amazing. Rob Zombie was also amazing. He puts on a great show for sure. Caught some of Evanescence but cut it short to get a better shot at Korn. Saw Tame Impala & Tash Sultana at the St. Augustine Amp. and caught Bob Seger on Mother's Day at Daily's Place.

I know this thread is three year's old. But didn't want to start a new one. I was actually listening to "Pull Me Under' by Dream Theater just now and it prompted me to search them up on this forum.

So far the best show for me personally was Tool. Got to hear Invincible and Descending live before anyone knew it was new material for their album that dropped back in August. That was pretty cool to experience. But when they got into "Parabol + Parabola" it really hit me. I was seeing Tool. Pretty fun man.
Just walked in from the TSO concert in Orlando. A perennial holiday favorite.
Slipknot 2002 in London (filmed for their Disasterpieces DVD). Support from In Flames, One Minute Silence & American Headcharge.

Sum 41 2010 Central Florida Fairgrounds (I believe it's called?)

Story Of The Year in London (both times, once at Astoria 2 and once at Brixton Academy)

Blink-182 - several times!!
To this day, I think the Robert Plant show I saw in the early 90s is probably my favorite. They were on the Fate of Nations tour. It was one of the early shows on that tour and the band was well rehearsed but still fresh. We were a few rows back from the stage and he was just starting to do old Led Zeppelin material at that time, it was great!
Been to countless concerts in my younger years. Seen Slipknot, Manson, White Zombie, Pantera ect ect..

But one concert will always stick out to me as the best, which was also my first concert I've ever been to.. I saw this crazy young band called The Beastie Boys open up for Run DMC in Miami.. I think I was about 12.. I was right up front in the pit. Brass Monkey started to play and there were women cage dancing on stage, I kinda hit puberty that night.
For absolute fidelity to their studio sound, REO Speedwagon was phenomenal. The worst I ever saw was Foghat. They sounded terrible and their lead guitarist did nothing the entire show but stand with his back to the audience and shake his bony [BLEEP] clad in black leather pants.
