REMINDER: Matt Gaetz only resigned his seat from the 118th Congress
But he was just elected to serve in the 119th Congress, which begins in January.
Matt Gaetz is *still* a Representative-elect.
TAKE YOUR SEAT BACK @mattgaetz! We need you now more than ever!
DeSantis is organizing a special election to fill the seat. I suppose Gaetz could win that one if he enters, but it looks like he has to run for the seat.
Ron DeSantis on X: "Congratulations to the Floridians being appointed to key positions in the Trump Administration: Senator Marco Rubio, Congressman Matt Gaetz, and Congressman Mike Waltz. I've instructed Secretary of State Cord Byrd to formulate and announce a schedule for the upcoming special" / X

Gaetz resigned from the current congress, but was relected to the new session, so technically he could be back. Wonder if he will do it that way?

100% agree. Even if the kiddie fiddler accusations are false, he still comes across as creepy.

If he comes back, the House Ethics Committee investigation would resume.
They are investigating allegations that he had sex with underage girls, used illegal drugs, accepted improper gifts, gave special favors to personal contacts, and obstructed the investigation.

If true, he needs fried like the rest of them..
But how long has Garland had to prosecute now?
It's just way too convenient for me.

It was going on before he resigned when he sought reelection so I’m not sure if that would stop him or not.

I've also read that he stepped down because of Mitch McConnell and 3 more stooges would'nt give their votes, and also needed approval from both The House and Senate for a recess, which he wasn't going to get.

Garland dropped his investigation. It was the House Ethics Committee that was still investigating him.

So the rabidly-leftist DOJ couldn't find any issues they could prosecute but the HEC is...got it.

Yes. The DOJ dropped their investigation, but the Republican-controlled HEC is keeping it going.
I don't think they like him very much.

Or maybe, just maybe, he had sex with underage girls, used illegal drugs, accepted improper gifts, gave special favors to personal contacts, and obstructed the HEC investigation into all of that.
Possible?

Possible, but why did Garland drop the investigation?
That doesn't make sense.

It's interesting. I googled, "why did the DOJ drop the investigation into Gaetz," and I learned, the DOJ investigation actually started during the Trump administration. That investigation was into whether Gaetz had sex with underage girls. Nothing else. The DOJ under Biden then dropped that investigation. The HEC investigation apparently involves a lot more, namely, the sex with underage girls, PLUS, whether he used illegal drugs, accepted improper gifts, gave special favors to personal contacts, and obstructed the HEC investigation into all of that.
Since he resigned from Congress, the HEC no longer has jurisdiction. So, he gets off the hook for that one, too.

It's just so fishy.. Democrats had almost total control for almost 4 years and with a big name like Gaetz in their sites, they would have thrown that guy under the prison and would still be grandstanding on it.

Remember, the DOJ investigation started during the Trump administration. Garland inherited it. So maybe he said, screw this, I don't want to waste my time going after members of Congress, and since the DOJ had asked the HEC to stand aside while the DOJ investigation was going on, Garland figured the HEC could handle it and he had better things to do. So he dropped it knowing the HEC had their own investigation and they could handle it as they saw fit.
