EDIT: The players on D are not the problem. But yeah, Neilson is a bad DC. But the players on D good enough to run back for the most part. Yeah we should upgrade safety and find a better DC that knows how to use our linemen. But it's not the Defense that is the problem.
It's the offense that is the problem. The D kept Houston under 25 points in both games we played them this year. We can't at least split a game with Houston?
The tacks are trash. They always will be. But we need to look at how Houston works us. And it's not the D that is the reason we lost to Houston this year. Houston is our antagonist. Folks here that hate the tacks are lost in the 90s. It's the 2020s. Houston is the hatred we need to focus on. I mean, damn. They targeted our franchise QB. Houston must be destroyed. Who cares about mayo? Let's focus on the spice.
Dawg. The defense is historically bad.
I agree this defense is bad. But I don't think the trash is based on the players... I may be wrong. But I will die on the hill that a poorly coached team will never overcome the talent they have. We all have NFL talent.
We have a team that is coached poorly. We have a team that doesn't put our players in the correct positions to succeed. We could have the best players in the NFL, but if we're coaching them to run a scheme that puts them in the wrong place on the field, unless they are Super Men and can close within .1 seconds, it wont matter.
We are a poorly run franchise because we have a GM and HC that have no idea how to build a team.

This defense is not that bad. This DC is bad. But the D has potential.
Same head coach that helped the Jaguars go to the playoffs in his 1st season with the team back in 2022. Same head coach that was here last season in 2023, with the same amount of wins as his 1st season.

So what's your point? Explain it to me like I'm a 5th grader.
Are you telling me that Pederson is the coach that can develop a QB?
You know that the O-Line is basically the same as 2022 and 2023. So what's the issue, oh wise one?

That should be the focus of the off-season.
The secondary has to be at the top of the list. DT could be argued, but the Jaguars are dead last in scoring defense, (the last time I looked….I don’t even care to look at this point) and that’s with 2 of the best DE Duo’s in the league.
One of our strongest offensive lineman is waiting in the wings for his chance in Cooper Hodges. Morse is going to be better than any rookie. You’re just gonna have to live with Walker Little at LT. Which leaves LG, that we can look for after the 2nd round or maybe in free agency.
That putrid secondary is by far the worst secondary in Jacksonville Jaguars History. Maybe it’s the scheme because of the fall off from Cisco, or maybe it’s just the players but either way it’s got to be fixed. If we had Prime Time at CB instead of Tyson Campbell, the Jaguars would still have the worst secondary in the NFL and the worst in Jaguars History.
The number 1 priority is secondary. Either a game changer at safety or a shutdown corner.
They have a few issues to iron out about which direction they want to go at RB. Bigsby was a year late, but he did what I thought which was take carries from Etienne and now he’s getting the Lion’s share because he’s just flat out a better NFL running back than Etienne. Etienne reminds me of Lamar Smith or a broke down Reggie Bush, and he’s terrible at picking up the blitz. I still haven’t forgive him for that dropped pass against Washington in week 1 of 2022. Bigsby has earned it and the team will go further with a more balanced rushing attack. Right off the top of my head I think Etienne has less than five 100 yard games.
I’ve heard rumblings about Engram. All I can say to that, is go look at the team history and what we’ve had at TE. Are you kidding me?
Kirk is dependent on what Lawrence wants and they seem to have good chemistry so they can rework that deal.
Cisco, who cares. Scherff, who cares. Muma, who cares. Lloyd ain’t what I thought he was but he’s ok.
Random thoughts: I like Miller and he reminds me of TJ Slaughter. Cam Little will become the best kicker in franchise history. Don’t fall victim to the “run it back” clan, because this is professional football and you can’t have hall of famers at every position. The best thing you can ever do in any sport is take the best player available. And no matter what coach you have, they don’t block, tackle, jump, run, juke, pass, catch, make reads, or anything else on the football field, the players do. Bill Belichek, Vince Lombardi, and Bill Parcells can’t make the Jaguars secondary any better than it already is. Coaches don’t make guys catch the ball cleaner, throw the ball faster, jump higher, hit harder, etc.
You're right, the one area that's costing them the most in wins and losses is the secondary.
If you just want them to win more games next year and you don't care how they do it, the secondary is what you work on. Players and coaching.
But, if you want Lawrence to play at a pro bowl level next year, and reduce your risk of him getting injured again, you upgrade the O-line.
So, I put O-line higher than secondary.

Yep sorry. Lloyd ran at the combine I got Millers time from the below links. Point is they are about the same speed wise. Now, any real difference will be how fast they process info and react.

[random note] 40-time is by far the lesser stat for LBs. Look at 3-cone, broad jump, and shuttle. If you have you're LB running 40 yards downfield you're alreeady in trouble. I'd say it's a nice to have. [/random note]

"Ouch" tends to be our in-season focus.

At this point I gotta think the tugboat is your neighbor or something. He might be good, but he's gotta stay on the field for us to keep him in consideration. Two years, two extended stays on IR. Just like the firings, I'll believe it when I see it. Untill the coop can stay on the active roster, he's little more than potential. We gotta do more than hope it works out. The one thing that sucks is this is a poor year to need OL help.
The best DB isn't gonna keep Trevor upright. You cite our scoring D, but there are so many factors that don't show up on a stat sheet - brand new defensive scheme, completely inept offense failing to sustain drives, a big fat nothingburger in the middle in spite of FA spending AND darft pick wasting. How's Sauce helping A. A. Ron right now?
Truth is, we have a LOT of holes to plug. Switching coaches may find a way to make some of the players work, may lead to more churn, it's all up in the air. Strap in, gonna be a bumpy ride.

maybe not NOT a problem, but less of a problem than getting your 275M investment killed on a yearly basis.
You get the offense working, watch what happens to defensive stats. You shift TOP into your favor, see what happens when a D has time to rest, analyze, and adjust. You have a team that can put points on the board, watch a D take advantage of risky plays trying to keep pace or catch up. We don't see any of that today.
The D is miserable, yes. But our run game sputters, the QB is getting ground to a pulp, and we do the D no favors with the poor excuse for offense when they aren't on the field. There's not just one problem - if there was, man, the fix would be dead simple. We gotta whole lotta problems, man.

The Defense is most definitely a problem. The Defenses stats before Lawrence's shoulder injury...
#Jaguars D prior to Lawrence shut down:
• 32nd Y/P (6.0)
• 32nd AY/A (9.2)
• 32nd passer rating (113.4)
• 31st pass EXP (-103.36)
• 30th PPG
• 30th TD passes (19)
• 30th YPA (8.2)
• 30th cmp-percentage (70.7)
• 29th TD pass-percentage (6.3%)
• 29th INTs (2)
• 26th rushing TDs (11)
The question becomes what is the cause? Compared to last year's D, is it the players we lost/brought in? Is it the DC? Is it the offense failing to do their part?
Stats are great, but we gotta do more than look at a few numbers to know what's the way to fix it.
One silver lining, with things being THIS bad, whatever changes we make will likely show improvement. @@

I'm missing the link here.
