All VPs are DEI hires. I don't like Kamala, but identity is literally the main consideration when selecting a VP. Does anyone here think Trump picked Pence because he was mostly concerned about who would carry on his policies? Hopefully this doesn't come across as an attack. It's just a weird thing that I see get repeated a lot, and I don't see anyone addressing the elephant in the room.

That's a good point.  Maybe Biden was a little too honest about how he would pick his running mate.  I don't recall any other candidate giving the real reason.  It's usually some pablum about how they are picking the best person to do the job if something happens to the President, etc etc.  I don't recall Trump saying anything like "I am going to pick someone to shore up the evangelical vote."  Biden came right out and made the pick all about affirmative action, which was stupid because most people don't like affirmative action.

Exactly. 
They are superficial and also aren't chosen.  They say nothing about your values and the choices you've made in your life.
It's like judging a poker player by the cards they are dealt rather than how they chose to play those cards.

Trump didn't pick Pence because he is an old white guy without regard to his resume and experience. Biden did pick Harris because she's a middle aged black woman without regard to her resume and experiences

But the point stands: they were both chosen to get votes.  That's the point I believe Lucky2Last was making.  They were both chosen for one reason only- to get votes.  We can call it DEI, or broadening the ticket, or anything else.  But the reason they were both chosen was the same.   There were some differences in the way it was done, but fundamentally, it was the same thing.

The point is that you can always say someone isn't qualified. Harris ran for President in 2020. She sucked, but it's not like she wasn't there on her own accord. A significant part of the democratic base cares about representation. Having her there for Biden was as important as having Walz was for Kamala or Pence was for Trump. DEI is a real thing, but VP is probably the only place it has ever made sense. It's just weird how some memes spread without considering whether it's relevant or not.
