If all the financial fraud, waste, pork and abuse was removed from the federal and state government programs and administrations/departments Americas tax rates could be 1/3 of what they currently are without the loss of anything critical.

Agreed, but that would have consequences. First, how would our public servants and bureaucrats become multimillionaires on their current salaries? Next, how would they get enough campaign contributions to run all those attack ads and pay their relatives millions for helping in their campaigns?

20 million people over 100 years old in our SSI?? Census says about 85,000. I believe this is a problem. AND THE DEMS WANT TO STOP LOOKING?

If that many extra checks were being sent out you would have heard about it long before now.  They would have run out of money long ago.
Just because an entry is in an old database doesn't mean checks have been going out.
And actual auditor would know that, but we don't have an auditor, we have an attention whore with his own social media platform.

Third after what has been uncovered I am unsure we would have heard anything. Lastly, I see in addition to TDS you have quite the case of EDS as well. (Elon Derangement Syndrome)  Maybe you should see a doctor.

Major issues in the SSI. Why are you against finding out? Last country that had this issue was Japan. Their fund was going broke as well. They found many had passed away and the heirs had never reported them as dead. Money was going out and since they had access to the accounts were getting it. I believe it is prudent for him to check.

I did not agree money was not going out. That is what is being looked into now, we will see.  

You do not know if it is an accidental or purposeful database error. Now are calculations used to determine the date SSI will be insolvent using this information? What else is this being used for? Are people getting paid? How many people have the same SSI number? Are there checks going out with blank SSI#'s or charged to no SSI#??  There is no excuse for the mismanagement we need change. If this was a company or individual there would be jail time involved.

Im hoping for audits of the NGO's that were recieving the aid for some of the line items that have been making the news lately, but i fear we will never have them because many of the NGOs will most likely rebrand or just allow themselves to go bankrupt as the CEOs cash out and head to Switzerland. I do think there needs to be serious investigation of members of Congress that go in with a federal salary of $174k and come out on the other side of their career as multimillionaires. That math doesnt add up. Especially now that we know that Ukraine cant account for over 200B. Looking everyday like that aid was more slush fund kickbacks than real aid, and even the weapons purchases had kickbacks attached. Sadly, the federal IT systems being investigated are being reported as so antiquated that the money is basically untraceable. IF this fraud can be traced back to ANY Senator, Congressman or appointed department head, they should be jailed, fined and thier assets frozen until any money taken from American taxpayers is recaptured and returned.

Most all gov programs are still written in cobol. While that language was state of the art in the 50', 60' 70's it is not now and those that can really be productive with it are hard to find. This adds a bit of a hurdle. It can be done, just a PITA. One concern I have is the SSI database being cleaned up. MANY government systems will use that a check for other payments not necessarily SSI ones. So even if someone that shows an age of over 100 may not be getting SSI money they very well may be getting payments from other programs. In fact it would be good cover to do that as audit of SSI payments would not catch those.

So true. I worked on retiring some Cobol-based legacy systems during my years working for an IBM partner consulting firm. Great code at the time; and to its credit, stable even today, which is why its hung around so long.

Many of the big corporate financial and insurance companies still use it for their core systems. They were still teaching it back in the dark ages when I was in college but I’ve heard they’re trying to bring back those courses because there’s still so much legacy code out there. But of course, they’re finding very few students willing to sign up, lol.

Yea, one thing I have experienced with is a move from CICS to a modern system. After implementation we needed about 2/3rds the manpower. While short term there was a bit of pain as expected, it was a huge productivity gain after that first year. The last I checked the DOD was still using CICS.

Can confirm that a major local insurance company is still using COBOL, but only in a few places.
