Let's be honest. We have had entire seasons that could be classified as "garbage time." There's too much positive momentum to nit pick about the past. We actually look like a real team for the first time in a long time.
Preseason is such a tease. We won't see a full starting unit and of what starters actually play it will be <10 plays. The kicking battle seems to be just as heated as any. Ficken was terrific in the scrimmage. It's just going to be finding out who will stick around on the bubble of the roster and fill up the special teams.

I agree - though I wouldn't call it nit-picking exactly.  By my count - Blake had 452 yds and  4 TDs in garbage time last season.

That's 3,976 yds and 31 TDs of legit offense.  I don't mind taking the time to dispel that narrative. Our offense was real last season for the first time in a long time.

I think we should all keep in mind also, one time the Redskins went winless in preseason, and won the Super Bowl, and one time the Lions won every preseason game and went 0-16 in the regular season.

As for the kicking battle, my support for Myers is starting to slip.

I can relate. I know its been a looooong time coming, but the pieces are in place for a very competitive Jaguars team. We may just shock the rest of the NFL.

Good point.

Someone can correct me or verify but also the last time the Colts won the Super Bowl...I believe they also went winless in the preseason? I could be wrong just going off the top of my head.

Umm why are we talking wins/loses in preseason? They are meaningless. I rarely see the end of the game.

I do though give a hard unbiased winner for the 1s.

For example. Bortles goes 3 and out. Punt. Defense stops for 3 and out then all starters sit = tie. Bortles O scores 7 jets get 3 = jags win..... etc etc.

What the 4th stringers do, do not count for w/l. They are only battling for spots.

The only score I care about in preseason is the halftime score in week three, and even that is only a partial indication.

The garbage time talk is largely a myth.  I think the figure I read was 14 out of the 16 games last year we were ahead or trailing by less than a score in the 4th quarter.

14 out 16....wow I didn't realize that. I'm ridin' with Bortles all the way. Interceptions and all.

I counted three games. (Pats,Bolts,Saints)  I looked at the box scores and I adjusted the first set of numbers I posted.

Blake had 397 yards passing and 5 TDs in garbage time last year.

His adjusted total would've made him the 11th best QB in the league in both passing yards and in TDs.  And that's without adjusting the numbers of those "above" him on that list.

Yes, the garbage time talk is very, very overstated.

He also didn't have his best olineman in Linder. He didn't have much of a run game to lean on.
To add my 2 cents, garbage time and racking up stats against weaker defenses is frowned upon. I could care less. I want my franchise QB to get 'madden' numbers against bad and soft defenses.

Forgive my john maddenism but you will be in a great position to win football games if the defense knows what's coming and still can't stop you.

Garbage time is practice for closing out regular season games. Regular season is practice for playoffs. It's all part of the progression from bad to good to great.
