Some of you are just so in love with mediocrity (.... actually, he is not even mediocre)

Quote:Some of you are just so in love with mediocrity (.... actually, he is not even mediocre)

I'm not saying I like him as the HC, I'm saying that's the only possible way he gets a pass from the GM and owner. If it was my call he would've been gone.
Gus is in a no-win situation with some of you guys... If the team lays an egg, it'll be all his fault and probably rightfully so... If they go 10 and 6, it'll be "They won in spite of Gus".  As far as I'm concerned, this is the year I judge him as he finally has the closest thing to a competitive roster since arriving in Jacksonville.

NO MORE EXCUSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NONE

Gus has earned his "no win" reputation.

It is now time for him to earn a "winning" reputation.

Some of you have no understanding of the situation. You see Gus as a coach who has underperformed for years, when that isn't the view of him from inside the team. The expectation for the first two years was terrible results as the roster was completely torn down and reconstructed. Year three was a bit of a disappointment, for a variety of reasons, some of which were in Bradley's control, some of which weren't (it should be plain from how he's looking in training camp just how much of a blow losing Fowler was...). There's a complete disparity between the view of some fans (here's a coach who has been failing for three years) and the view of the team (here's a coach who has done exactly as expected for two years, and slightly worse than expected last year, but with some seriously mitigating circumstances).

If the fan view were accurate, then Gus would probably be gone by now. It isn't, though. The team view is, and Gus is probably a whole load safer than a lot of fans think, but still under a lot of pressure this time round.

Losing Fowler last year was huge and a lot of people of here downplayed it far too much. Gus was left with Clemons and Branch as starters to rush the QB...

That was the worst combo of DE's in the NFL imo.

This year is different, he's got a stacked roster now, I don't expect 10-6 this year. 8-8 is a minimum though.
The pressure is definitely on Gus, and Khan publicly has set higher expectations this year.  I think Caldwell has growing pressure, but is safe.

Quote:If Gus can't manage .500 then he deserves to be released. We should definitely be in the playoff hunt this season
ditto.

Given the amount of talent that exists on this team now, failing to at least reach the .500 mark would be a pretty strong indication of a coaching failure. Personally, I'm not holding my breath waiting for us to reach the playoffs this season. We've gotten a lot more talent (at least on paper) but much of it is very inexperienced. There is a reasonable doubt that this inexperience will impede the team from reaching the playoffs this season. Now next season, if there are no radical personnel changes (like a new head coach), then expectations should really be for this team to reach the playoffs and continue to do so long term.

But much of what will happen here in the future depends on what happens here this season.

Yeah... the pressure is on.
I have some abdominal pressure, but that should go away soon.

Caldwell isnt going anywhere. He has loaded this team with talent. Now its time for Gus to develop the talent and squeeze some wins out of them

Gosh, that's a pretty limited target.
Quote:I'm not real certain how my one word comment came across as smug and persnickety, but please let me state here that I am in no way telling anyone how to react. How you fan is your business, just how I fan is mine.

I do, however, think that a post talking about how there is pressure on the staff is a bit obvious. I'm not telling you how to react, I'm just trying to point out that it's kind of a common topic around here.
Okay.
I give Caldwell a pass on his first head coach just like his first draft and free agency. Dave has improved so much in the areas that matter that if Gus burns on the hotseat Dave will improve the coaching too.

Blah blah blah, you probably had the same song with Gene Smith (some people even had it with Mularkey, who btw is better than Gus).

Sorry but you don't know football if you can't realize by now that he is mediocre at best.

That would be the sound of you not addressing the point I made. It's alright, we can wait while you read again and try to understand it.

That pretty much sums it up to me. It would be great if we did reach 10-6 this season, but as I said elsewhere I'm not holding my breath expecting it. We've got a much improved roster now (at least on paper), but much of that talent is on the rookie level. I don't think it's a realistic expectation for a team loaded with so many rookies at key positions (albeit, they are good rookies) to turn in a 10-6 season; it could happen, but I wouldn't bet on it. I don't think however that there is any reason for us to fail to reach at least 8-8 though.

I honestly didn't even read your entire boring and silly comment.

Like I said, if you can't see it...
