I thought Telvin was one of the better pieces on the team last season... but was that because he is that good, or is he just an average guy who was surrounded by other defensive players on the team who are so bad that it makes him look good? It's hard to say, but we should get a better picture of his ability this season as the defense won't be so loaded with scrubs.... we hope.

Even if he isn't awesome and is just a solid starter that's a win. We need solid guys too. Especially since he was drafted in the 5th.
He's above average for a 5th RD pick. He's essentially a Derrick Brooks clone who also hailed from FSU. We just need to keep bolstering the front four and shore up the secondary like Tampa Bay did back in the late 90s. We haven't seen a Warren Sapp or Simeon Rice show up yet on our front four. And then hopefully when that happens you'll see a John Lynch and Ronde Barber type safety and cornerback running around back there or up to the line of scrimmage.

That Tampa 2 crap wouldn't work in todays game.
Quote:Luke kuechly?? I think he is a guy who gets a lot of attention without sacks.
Exactly. Kuechly was definitely the MVP of the Panthers defense.  That is the kind of guy Telvin might be, just making plays all the time.  Plus, the defense WILL have more sacks, but I'm not sure any one guy will have a huge total.
Quote:Funny, he was in the very last pic from day 1 batch on main site. I signed on to the MB just to say this. Telvin Smith just has that home grown feel. Always upbeat, smiling, engaging. He is a true Jag, love the kat. With his experience in the system at this stage of his career and his range/dynamism in play, a definite Jags D MVP candidate over the rooks and newcomers who have viable pedigrees.
Well said.
Quote:Forgotten? What a moron.
Show me all the recent articles and threads about Telvin Smith and the impact he will have this season, genius.

He was the only defensive player on this team voted into the top 100. There's an entire video praising him on that show alone.

Maybe your pea brain forgot about him, but I"m pretty sure no one else has.

As far as articles, try google. There have been multiple articles written about him this off season. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Ease up fellas. We're all on the same team. We know Telvin is on a mission this year.

Yeah, ease up.  What are you trying to be?  FBT Jr?  People like you make it hard to enjoy this board.
Ok back on topic.

What's crazier...Jack in round 2 or Smith in round 5.

I'm gonna go with Smith in round 5 bc he could go all pro this year. And in a re draft scenario, he could easily go in round 1 or 2.

Then go away. It's not like this board needs another poster who creates threads based on made up points of contention.

Camp has started. There are plenty of real subjects to talk about.

If you don't like being called out about a fictitious topic, then don't post it
I just want our defense to turn the corner and at least be respectable. Telvin is already recognized as a top 100 player in the league. If our defense improves his odds of making bigger and more game changing plays increases drastically. MVP of our defense probably but not DMVP of the league with guys like Von Miller, Luke Kuechly and Watt.

The best defense the last few years(Seahawks) defense uses very similar principles and is heavily influenced by Tampa 2.

Wow.  If your opinion had some weight with me, I might respond a little more harshly....but it doesn't.

So all threads have to talk about things that have already happened?

Don't post in threads that you don't have anything to contribute but insults and immaturity.  Move along to your next complaint.

The Seahawks had the best defense the last few years?

Serious question.

Serious question.
Yes. In terms of points allowed, they're the best.

Threads should at least have some factual backing. Making a thread stating people have forgotten Smith isn't a contribution. It's just spouting ignorance.

How about you just don't make dumb posts if you don't want a response. That way you don't have to get your feelings hurt.

I like how you took a swipe at me by trying to make an insulting reference using another posters name who isn't even involved in the conversation. So don't preach to me about maturity and insults. You definitely don't have a problem hurling your own insults and obviously lack any maturity.

Candidate for stupidest argument of the offseason right here.
Really?

Predator, here's my understanding of the thread's premise; we know Telvin is the boss on D, but OP muses, with Malik, Jack, Fowler and Ramsey making a lot of headlines, how about our true cog, Telvin Smith? It's a recurrent atta boy to the man but also acknowledging that there is legit competition for Jags D MVP besides him. We've seen worse threads.
