had to replace Wiz
Ficken had a terrible start at Penn State during the first year following all the sanctions they received. He actually cost them a game or two that season due to missed kicks. He showed tremendous resiliency, however, and ended up becoming a very solid kicker. He doesn't have the leg of Myers, but became a very consistent kicker. It should be a good battle. My guess is that Myers wins the job, but Ficken will be on speed-dial in case the extra point issue isn't corrected.

Ficken missed 3 or 4 kicks including an xp, lost PSU more than 1 game for sure. I honestly can't believe he will be more than a camp fodder.

Maybe Justin will see how bad Sam is and actually gain confidence.

So we can make Puns of Dernard Robinson driving in a pond all day, but we cant make puns on this guy name? Unfickenbelivable.
That deserves the highest of high gives

Awesome. Still a little uneasy on Myers.

Slim Fickens at this time of the year.
Quote:72% career kicker...

Why?
Agreed on that question.  Terrible stats in college... I don't see those getting BETTER in the NFL under real pressure.  Not much leg strength, either.

My thought is this is the only kicker bad enough to ensure that Myers still wins the starting job, but it looks like a "competition."  If he missed (3) PATs from the short college spot on the wider collegiate goal posts... he could miss more PATs than Jason "The Shank" Myers.
Duuuurrrrrrrr.....

Guys, Ficken is a class act. He endured a lot of "stuff" as a freshman kicker and missing key field goals to becoming one of the more reliable kickers PSU has had in his junior and senior years.

His overall stats were terrible, but the last two years he only missed one from each range.
His downfall and probably why he won't make it in the NFL is his lack of strength. But he has nerves of steel and will not give up or settle for second place.

Ficken was the most reliable part of the Penn State offense his junior and senior years. That's really the best and most succinct praise for him.

PSU fans ^

He's Ficken good!

He's Ficken good!

I can see a new Jaguar show called Hicken and Ficken! It will be a sure fire hit! Banana

Looks like a kicking competition could be brewing:

Quote:K Sam Ficken appeared to make field goals of 33, 33, 38, 44, 48 and 58 yards. His final kick sailed into the net with room to spare.

Well he did improve to 83 percent as a senior which at least suggests his arrow is pointed up.

He never missed any XPs as a senior, and as a junior he went 41 of 42 on XPs.

XPs in college are like they were in the NFL 2 years ago. Never should miss one
I just remembered where I heard of Ficken. When the Steelers were about to waive Scobee, he was the kicker who tweeted the Steelers that he was available.

Well he just spanked Myers in the scrimmage. My guess is he's our kicker come week 1.

I just want to see him kick extra points in a live setting.

If he bangs them through during preseason, then I'm with you.
He sure looked pretty good tonight. Hope he can keep that up(or Myers....I just want a good kicker!)
