It's not so much ending up in a pond that strange, it's the lack of response to a cop knocking on your door telling you you're in a pond. The description of the lady's behaviour is pretty absurd. "What's up?" Uhh, I'll just roll up my window now as you're telling me the car I'm in is in water.

Scary stuff, I almost fell asleep while driving 12 hours to Seattle a few years back. Scary time, the wife freaked out and we found a place to sleep after that. I dont remember parts of it either so TBH I probably did fall asleep.
