17 Years After Gun Bans in Australia …Police Say Gun Crime is Out of Control

In 1996 Australia unloaded some of the most severe gun bans and gun confiscation programs on record.  And for the guns that were not confiscated gun owners were forced to enter into license agreements and have their guns registered so the government knew what guns everyone had.

Well, they really only knew what guns the law abiding had, since none of the criminals actually followed the program.  Fancy that.

Crap? Fecal matter? The ol' stinky number two?
3/10 subpar effort, no results
I'm convinced The Drifter gets a stipend for every hit on Snopes.com.
Yes totally out of control  :teehee:

So much value brought by this poster 10/10

What's with people just running away when called out as of late?
Some people will believe whatever they read so long as it aligns with their agenda.  I think Drifter has clearly demonstrated he's one of those people.

From your own Snopes article:

"For Australia, a difficulty with determining the effect of the law was that gun deaths were falling in the early 1990s. No study has explained why gun deaths were falling, or why they might be expected to continue to fall. Yet most studies generally assumed that they would have continued to drop without the NFA. Many studies still found strong evidence for a beneficial effect of the law."

I love the dissonance in the last two sentences. "Rates were going down but the Law made them go down!"  Rolleyes

So, as has been said, the Aussies passed a law to deal with a problem that they didn't really have but claim that the law solved the problem even though the stats show no significant difference. Good work all!

Good thing he couldn't get a gun...
