A win in week #1 would mean we're 1-0. That's as good a start as anyone could ask for.

Quote:A win in week one would show me that this team is a legit playoff contender for this year and the years to come, and in some ways could be seen as a "passing of the torch" type of win. Pretty much, week 1 is a virtual playoff game that will define our whole season.
It would set the tone and raise the level of expectations for the rest of this season. Can't argue there. It's a good measuring stick for this roster. Green Bay is bolstered by a ton of veterans. They have an accomplished Quarterback in Rodgers. They're getting a healthy Jordy Nelson back who only makes Rodgers look even more better at his job. I'd say if we win this game by three points. It shows we're ready to fight with the big boys. If we win it convincingly. I'd say maybe. And I do mean MAYBE. Just maybe this team is ready to surpass the .500 mark this year and be taken seriously in the AFC. I am not as easily sold or convinced yet. But just the first four games alone are pretty brutal. And September will be the early telling of how this team's future will be shaping out in 2017 and beyond. Another losing season means the coaching staff is getting gutted. And that could also mean Caldwell goes or maybe stays too. And I actually want him to stay here as the General Manager.

It would be nice to beat the Packers. Just don't forget that these days in the NFL, it usually takes four to five weeks to tell who the contenders and the pretenders are. That said, I will take 1-0 any times.

I think beating the Packers will show the fans why to believe so much in the team. I don't think it would have any bearing on the season as a whole, but I do think that it sets the right tone.
I also think that a couple more wins on top of that would ensure there were very few empty seats at each home game thereafter.

I am hoping Caldwell stays despite what happens to the coaching staff. After all, we wouldn't even have this talent-stacked team without him. With a competent coach at the helm, we can start chasing the playoffs.
I can confidently bet money on that.

Week 1. The best time to beat a team like the Packers. A northern team coming to the Humidor. If our guys are conditioned. The D is what we hope it is. Offense continues from last year. I expect a win. The timing is perfect. If it were in GB in December, I'd say a loss. But 100 degree heat index on the field? By the 4 th quarter, I expect to see Mr.Rodgers ready to leave our neighborhood.
Anyone remember Donovan McNabb hurling on the field during one of our games from the heat?
Dude was tough. Called the play, threw up and still got the play off.

Expectations would drastically increase. It's only one game it will either be business as usual or we actually look to like we want to have a good season. It's a non-conference game but a good test to start the season.

It'll show that the hype is legitimate. Still would have 15 more games to play, but when was the last time we beat an elite qb? These last few years, we have won against the mediocres, and only the mediocres. This would be a great win to get our team rolling. Go jags!

Heath Evans has us winning.

That we really mean it.. that we are tired of losing on opening day .. that we are serious about "our house" and making a statement to the NFL, that we will NOT hold the mantle of laughingstock ever again..

This question got me thinking, and I really can't remember. I don't think we've beaten a QB who was elite since Peyton played for the Clots. So over half a decade.

We have never beaten Brady, Brees, or Rodgers... it is Manning... in 2010 maybe? Might actually be 2008 when Fred was playing

I don't expect a win, but if we do pull it out expect the hype train to run out of control.

We beat Rodgers back in 2008, and Brees back in 2003. Obviously, they were younger then but it's nice to know that we've beaten them already. Brady would be the icing on the cake.

I'm guessing Brees was a rookie that year. I do remember that game somewhat... didn't Fred have a long game winning TD?
