I've put over 100 hours into it and have enjoyed my time. With all the additional content the expansions have brought, there's plenty to do. The core gameplay is really fun and if you like grinding for gear in games, you'll definitely enjoy it. The "MMO" aspects of Destiny also make the world feel somewhat alive, which is cool in a first person shooter. I mainly play solo, but it's definitely a game that's great to play with a group.
Also I have it for ps4 and I know you can download a "demo" on the PSN store which is pretty much the vanilla version of the game with a level cap. I'm not sure if the xbox one has that or not, but if so I'd check it out and that should give you a good idea what to expect without spending any money.
