Quote:They don't call him Slick Willie for nothing. Lynch is gambling, though. Her reputation took a ding, but if Hillary is elected, her Supreme Court nomination should smooth things over.

And as a sometimes impartial observer, this is the part of politics I enjoy.

The Big Gamble.

Look at what Mitch McConnell is doing, for example.  He hates Obama, so he'll be damned if he'll let Obama nominate a justice to the Supreme Court.  He has ordered his troops to withhold advise and consent, in direct contradiction to the Constitution - but who's gonna enforce that?  That's not what I find amusing about this particular gamble, though.

He's been offered a fairly moderate Supreme Court nominee, but is waiting for "The American People" to decide who will claim the seat.  When he laid down that challenge, he knew Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic nominee.  Being that she's a flawed candidate, he bet that a Republican would win the presidency in November, and McConnell would get his conservative justice (and maybe an extra 2 to boot).

Instead, Donald Trump wins - one of the few candidates that could actually lose to Hillary.

Now, McConnell's all in on a wild card, one so repulsive to the American public that he could actually turn the Senate back to the Democrats, and allow Hillary to nominate someone far more liberal than judge Garland. To his credit, you never see McConnell squirm, but it's gotta be killing him.

Game on.  Makes me chuckle. Smile

What I'm actually doing is pointing out that in this thread, Bill's been made out to be a doddering old fool.  About 3 days ago, I heard a couple pundits postulating that Bill knew exactly what he was doing, and knocked on the AG's door to talk about his grandkids in a scheme to get her to excuse herself from the decision process... which she did.  She said she would take the FBI's decision and recuse herself.

Fast forward to today, and her department will now likely take the FBI's recommendation not to prosecute Hillary.  Call it blind luck or Machiavellian Clinton genius, but now the AG is bound to her promise she made last week due to the actions of..

Bill Clinton.

Unlike the Night's Watch, I'm not taking sides in this one, but I can admire and respect folks that play politics like chess (including guys like W, Donald and Ted, by the way).  I find it plausible that Bill outfoxed everyone again.  Remember, what he did wasn't illegal - just "a dumb mistake", as many have called it.

We may never know if it was genius or foolhardy - and that makes me chuckle. :teehee:

Most likely it was all intentional.  As much as I dislike them, the Clinton's aren't stupid.

No one is better at getting out of a felony than Bill Clinton. What a great legacy.
