Joeckel was terrible last year but let's not let 1 pic be the nail in his coffin. Let him compete. Beachum is no savior. The Steelers let him walk bc Ben was always running for his life.

However the pic is terrible for Luke. Lol

Looks like OT will be our priority in the draft next year.

not if Beachum plays well

I don't get where a majority think Joeckel was terrible last year. He actually only had 1 terrible game late in the season. I think he actually did pretty good considering the horrific guard play next to him. I'm with you on the Beachum not being the savior. This board will implode when Joeckel is named the starter. If you compare their stats, they are basically the same player, only Beachum has had an issue with penalties.

We know what we have in Joeckel. Pray he doesn't get Bortles killed. On a serious note I think he could be an average player for us this year. We act as though he can't do anything useful but he hasn't gone against Fowler or Jackson before. He has competition now at least.

Don't really want to message board bicker, but if you watched much Jags football Joeckel was poor. I mean, don't you think there's a reason we declined his 5 year option??!! Or do you think the Washington post knows more? Sorry I didn't even bother clicking the links because if you think Joeckel is even average... Well cool you're entitled to your opinion, but don't act like this is a small cult. It goes clear to management.

Unfortunately, this is the type of lame pop off at the mouth, no logical response I expected. Good to see the message board didn't let me down! Not going to waste time with this. Luke Joeckel sucks and anyone we bring in is waaay better. Do you even football dude? Am I doing it right? Can I be part of the Madden gang?
If it was the opposite scenario you'd all be complaining about Luke stonewalling our priciest FA. So, what do you want to see? Jackson win or Luke? Or, I dunno, maybe hope they'll make each other better? Or not assign weight to it cus it's unpadded OTAs? There will be plenty of opportunities to panic. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

it might be a lil early to tell

I would love to see that..

I don't believe this to be accurate. Beachum was their fulltime starter before going down in October last year, and from all reports Steelers fans were pleased with his ability to pass block for Big Ben. The complaints about Beachum related to his being undersized in the run game. If Big Ben was running for his life this past November and December, you can't pin that on Beachum.

Ben has been on a record setting sack pace. His OL is much maligned. Living near Pitt I get too much feedback. Nobody is choked up over losing Beachum around here.
Joeckel's become the Garrard of left tackle.

An Achilles heel of the position that can play well at times, but not enough to compensate overall.

We also seem to have the same trouble replacing/upgrading the position.

Somehow I get the feeling we'll have to go backward there before we get ahead again, as with Gabbert before Bortles.  I certainly hope not.

I wouldn't mind an anonymous LT at this point instead of a star.  Good or bad, better off not hearing his name at all.  Just don't make key mistakes.

We are a good enough team now that all Joke has to do is be average or just below.

Which he is.
One still photo of Joeckel standing behind Jackson, who probably wasn't even his assignment to begin with, and everyone goes on and on about how Luke sucks.

Now, I'm not denying that Luke sucks, he may or may not suck.  But that photo?   I seriously doubt that Malik Jackson was lined up on the left tackle.   Much more likely Joeckel wound up trying to pick him up after Jackson beat one of the guards.

^^ I disagree, I feel like Luke was playing inside because they have stated before they'd like to see if he'd work at that spot.

I feel like people are sometimes too harsh on him, but he deserves some of it. I will wait till training camp, and preseason to really say he's no use, or he's actually getting it.
I bet Joke starts all 16 games at LT.
Joekel is like Iverson.  He's a gamer !!!

LT purgatory IMO

lol at Gus just staring at what is happening.

I wonder what he is thinking about LJ at that very moment?
