Quote:You realize that supply side economics have been essentially dead as a theory since the failure of Bush's tax cuts of 2003?
I saw somewhere earlier today an article from a CEO talking about how the tax system is bad for business. I'll try to search it out and post it. In the meantime, why exactly is Chrysler now a foreign company?
Quote:this is a problem with conservatives. they consistently go to bat for one of the most corrupt industries ever to exist in the name of trickle down theory. the oil industry is not hurting, and they've made sure of that by using scumbag tactics
So the industry is corrupt exactly how?

The guy in charge of a business says tax is bad for business? Well, pardon my ignorance. Let's chuck the whole system based on anecdotal evidence from a completely unbiased source!
Quote:Are you suggesting that if a corporation like Exxon was given lower taxes that they would pass the savings on to the consumer?
This is what we were sold in Australia by a conservative government with scrapping a carbon tax here. No electricity bill reduction has yet occurred a couple of years later. Sure the companies are happier with lower tax however.

"Competition is sin."

And that's how the Rockefellers and other super dynasties have operated for a very long time.
Watch the documentary "How oil conquered the world"
I think the term, "Living within your means", is lost on many. I think that when most folks get the itch to get something that is a luxury they just go get it. Put it on credit, borrow money from someone, use cash that should be spent on needs, etc.
I have always wanted a way to audit and monitor the spending of anybody receiving govt aid and assistance.
Claiming you don't have enough money to buy food/diapers/medicine/clothing for your kid and asking for freebies should come with a full audit and financial consultation. The applicants usually are not college grads (student loan debt is another of my favorite topics...) and probably not even high school grads. Accounting, smart buying habits, math, negotiating... these are not their strong suit.
Please don't give me that "unlucky" or "less fortunate" BS- we pay taxes to pay for stupid people who make bad decisions. Sorry for the rant, but it has been clear to me since I 1st got a job that I pay taxes to help stupid people live better. Period. Their poor spending habits and bad math skills are costing me and you money. Mathis out.

My dear boy, you only have to listen to know what they think.

They extract black sludge from the ground, refine it into small chain molecules, sort these into several different usable products, ship them to every street corner in the country and sell the product for less than the price of bottled water.
Such criminals!

Sucking the very blood of Mother Gaea those brutes!
The same people who started the oil monopoly are now getting ready to institute a carbon tax. Ya man, they're angels.
Quote:See? This is why our betters are insistent that everyone live in the city.
That wouldn't fly here as our town is too small for mass transit. There isn't even a taxi company here though there are people who work as independent taxi drivers. There is no living in the city here. You either live within the town limits or you don't. There is only about 7,100 people who live here give or take. Pinehurst, which is the golf mecca of NC and where all the rich folks live, wouldn't stand for a mass transit system here. They're a few miles from my town with Southern Pines in between and they pretty much run Moore County.
I am beyond thankful for my old Chevy Silverado. It's 14 years old and has almost 200K miles on it but it's a workhorse,
If someone feels like fuel cost are a heavy burden, buy a car with better than average fuel economy.
Maybe I'm not understanding the premise. You get to choose what you drive, it's not a fixed cost.

Things aren't that simple at the bottom end of the totem pole.

The thing is, lower income people can't exactly afford a Prius.

Yes, you do.

Bingo. We're not even lower income but because of 2 surgeries in 14 months our money has been going to those bills and rehab for the recent shoulder surgery. We are a one income household until I finish school and can begin my career. If one of our vehicles goes out my husband will have the working one to get to and from work, a 60 mile one way commute, and I would have to get things done on his days off.

My truck is paid for and I am not going to take on a car payment just to save on gas. I'll drive it until the wheels come off or I get a good paying job, whichever comes first. Right now the price of gas for the 23 gallon tank isn't too bad. When it gets to $3.50-$4/gallon is when my butt puckers.
Lol whoa there.
Nobody has to go out and get a new Prius.
Is a 2005 Honda Civic affordable enough?

I feel for your husband. I worked for a while in St. Augustine which was about a 45 mile one way commute for me and I hated it (the commute not the job). On top of it, try having to cross the Buckman Bridge going east early morning (around 6:00 AM) and crossing going west in early afternoon (around 5:00 PM).
