Just a thread to balance out the constant back and forth on this board.  Just a place to post some stuff that isn't meant to further one's own argument.  Please post nice comments about your political opponents or posters that you disagree with.

I will start:

About a poster:

#1) Eric drives me crazy with many of his positions, but i can say that he is as consistent in his positions as anyone I have ever discussed politics with.

About a politician I do not support politically:

#2) Trump has blown me away with his ability to, not only stay relevant, but to be successful.  He has been utilizing the media to his advantage and he has really surprised me.

No complisults please:

well thanks Vic!

we don't agree on much but I appreciate his perspective and his families dedication to public education. To me the public system might now work but I have a huge amount of respect for the people that sacrifice their time, lives, and talents to help educate the next generation.

Trump

he's fearless I'll give him that

We agree on some things, disagree on more, but the man knows how to separate the political views from the person and is an all-around decent human being. I respect that.

Bill O'Reilly

I know, I know, not a politician, but I still have a deep respect for the man. He plays to his audience on Fox, but in interviews on other networks and other programs, it's clear that he is a historical scholar who has a deep respect for those who came before him and their contributions to today's America. I almost put Antonin Scalia here, as I had more respect for him than I do anyone else sitting on the Supreme Court today for much the same reason that I respect O'Reilly, but somehow I don't think a dead man would have fit the tone of this thread.
I predict this will be a short thread.

Thanks TJ, I appreciate the kind words.

I'm gonna shout out to my man Oface, the King of the Global Warming threads. I'm impressed by his dedication to his beliefs and his attempts to get all the rest of us on board.

As for #feelthebern, he really does believe that his path is the best for all people and I don't think there's any real malice or self aggrandizement there. He, like Uncle Joe Biden, is probably a very decent human being who I just don't agree with politically.

I barely have anything good to say about politicians I agree with, let alone the ones I disagree with.  So I'll say things about some of the posters I disagree with.

Eric- We disagree on a lot.  Especially abortion.  But he really cares about children, and the fact that he'd be willing to adopt is fantastic.  Especially given the foster care in this country.  I know a lot of people who speak out against abortion, and put adoption out there as an option for people, but themselves are unwilling to adopt.  Or alternately if they're willing to adopt, they want to adopt a baby from some foreign country.  He's also probably one of the nicest guys on this forum.  I can't recall a time he's made an ad hominem attack against someone.

JIB- The things we agree on, we can probably count on one hand.  But I appreciate the service he's given to this country.  That goes for everyone in the military, and other police officers like JagNGeorgia.

I like Eric because he is consistent in his views without being militant about them.

I like flsprtgod because he can take snark better than anyone on this board and has a firm belief in privacy and freedom even if we don't always agree what freedom means.

TJ - maybe the most actual centrist on here? I can get behiind that.
rollerjag - He is a consistent, dedicated leftist and former programmer which I respect. Also masterful at dodging questions.

Bernie Sanders - I disagree with the majority of his policies, but he, like Trump, is a good thing for the existing political nightmare in this country. Even though I only agree with his stance on trade, I would vote for him over a non-Trump republican candidate just to fight the oligarchy.
I respect everyone who posts in this forum. Sincerely.
I don't really dislike and/or not respect anyone that posts in this forum.  Yes exchanges can sometimes appear to be "heated", and sometimes insults are thrown around a bit, but I know that I don't take any thrown my way personally and I don't intend ill feelings by the ones that I throw on occasion.  Put it this way, I would gladly tailgate at a Jaguars game with pretty much anyone on here, and if there are no opposing viewpoints on political issues then this forum would be pretty boring.

Regarding politicians that I don't support.

1.  Donald Trump is smart enough to manipulate the media and was able to gain support because of it.  The fact that he is anti-PC is probably about the only thing that I like about him.

2.  Hillary Clinton... that's a tough one.  Her family is important to her.

3.  Bernie Sanders at least doesn't try to hide his agenda and doesn't pander to any certain crowd, unlike Hillary Clinton.

I agree, and as a moderator I appreciate all who participate here without letting things spiral out of control. The very existence of a Political forum depends on good message board citizenship, and you have all proved the skeptics wrong.

It's really hard to say I respect any of the current front runners. Bernie is the most genuine, but even he has made compromises to further his political career.

And I appreciate your tenacity and the fact that you have a sense of humor.

I like Trump's consistency. I think he's stayed the most consistent of them all -- consistly lunatical. You know what you're going to get, at least, which is more than you can say about Hilary.
There is no one here I dislike or have no respect for though there is at least one that I shake my head at because they truly baffle me.

I value all points of view even if I don't agree with them. I think that's how we learn and grow. I have had opinions challenge me to think or see a different way than what I'm used to and that is something.

As for politicians, none of the main folks do anything for me except entertain (Trump), anger (Clinton) and baffle (Sanders).

This.

As far as candidates, while I disagree with just about everything he stands for, I find Bernie Sanders the most honest of the candidates, and that includes the Libertarian duo.

How so? To me, Bernie is pretty much a phony. If he were a socialist he'd be advocating governmental control of the means of production; control of utilities and mass transportation. Have you heard Bernie talk about any of that? I haven't. He knows if he did so he'd get even less votes than he does now. He's getting support now because a lot of people with little stake in the game think it's fun to play leftist. And they know Hillary is no leftist (although she'll partner with any group that will assist in her getting elected.)

Bernie has a great gig up in tiny Vermont. His staff answers the mail and I'm sure he helps the elderly get their Social Security. Other than that what's he ever done? What's he got to lose? Hey - minimum wage of $20/hr! Why not! Free health care! Why not! Free college! Why not! How do we pay for it? Tax the rich!!!

He's having the time of his life. He owes nothing to the Democratic Party and he probably wouldn't mind seeing Trump win so he can say I told you so.

That opinion is fine, but that argument can occur in other threads.

Who do you respect that differs from your own political opinions? Doesn't even have to be a politician or poster. I think someone said Bill O'Reilly, which is fine too.

I don't think Bernie is dishonest about those things. "Socialist" means different things to different people. While the definition includes the government actually owning the factories, many socialists consider government control through heavy regulation as sufficient, and Bernie has made regulating industry and banking one of his main taking points. AFAIK he hasn't come out against government control of utilities and mass transportation either.

In any case I said "most" honest among the candidates. I never claimed he was totally honest. Every politician lies.
