Quote:Tim Deegan is still a weather guy there? Wow, I believe he was doing that when I moved to Jax in '93.
Oh you've missed a bunch. His wife Donna used to be married to Dan Hicken (the sportscaster on that station). There are stories floating around as to how that relationship ended and how she ended up marrying Tim Deegan. The story is pretty much a soap opera.
Either way, the "leather faced" comment by Dakota could pretty much be applied to either of them.

I think "weather guy" might have been overly complementary. He's a glorified surf reporter, always has been.

Someone in a position to know once told me the story, as they understood it, of what happened. Equal parts sad and, well, sad.
Quote:Ha. Yeah. Dum [BAD WORD REMOVED] Gov Scott already issued state of emergency for NE Florida.....for just typical Florida weather.
Businesses sending people home. Schools closing. Phony tornado warnings. Trees down. Lol. Typical indeed
No biggie. I usually go outside and ride the tornados for a couple hours when these things happen. Then when I'm done with that, I swim back to the house to take a nap in my bedwater.
Please I haven't even lost power or TV hardly a tropical storm, I've seen worse thunderstorms.
Quote:Looks like some areas faired worse than others. There were two possible tornadoes reported with fairly major damage.

Some of those velocity signatures looked particularly legit. There was what must have been an incredible waterspout off of Hanna Park after the line of storms cleared Jacksonville.
The news sure knows how to take a tropical storm and make it sound like the apocalypse is just around the corner. It's unreal. The overkill is crazy.
Our area got a ton of rain, but little to no wind. I think I picked up an extra half dozen or so pine cones in the yard post storm. Heck, we didn't even lose satellite at all during the worst of it. Some neighborhoods had reports of trees down and other damage, but based on the level of panicked reporting that was done starting as early as last Friday and building to a crescendo last night, So, it was no doubt that the local stations would be scrambling to find that damage this morning to justify all of the panic. Channel 4 had a reporter out on the west side where there were a dozen or so trees that were either uprooted, or snapped, so it looks like that area got hit with either a tornado or a microburst. We've had similar and even more severe damage from afternoon thunderstorms in the past.

You owe me a new keyboard.
Had to drive to Baker county yesterday. You can see where it went through south of I-10 just west of the Publix distribution center. A gap of trees all snapped off at about 20 feet.
I used to work with a guy who was a professional surfer when he was younger, was very successful on the east coast. He told me he was surfing at the Jax Beach pier when a hurricane way offshore was creating some nice surfing conditions, and Tim Deegan was also there surfing. As they were waiting for a wave Deegan was describing how the meteorological conditions were affecting the surf. I forget the details, but my friend said he had it essentially opposite of what the facts were.

I would never go to Surfer Boy Tim for my weather.
It sprinkled here a couple days ago...I got a little nervous for a second. I didn't want it to spot up my new truck.
