Saw another thread that talked about Gus being on the hot seat and it got me thinking about some guys to watch as head coaching candidates not just for our team but in general.
Any coordinators/assistants/former HCs/college coaches you guys think could be next up to lead a team?
Jedd Fisch, bring him home
I would suggest if we were to promote from within, Doug Marrone would be my choice.
Mike Smith would be a strong candidate for me outside the organization.
In another year or so, Ken Norton Jr and Ray Horton would be two viable candidates as well.
Im watching Teryl Austin(Lions D Coordinator) this season. His biggest obstacle is not having great DTs but if he can make it work i think hes a major candidate come next off season.

Good call, though I think between Ngata and Robinson, he will have the DTs he needs.
Honestly if the offense puts up good numbers again it will be Greg Olsen. Keeps Bortles comfortable in the same offense.

Def not devoid of talent but Ngata is pretty old.
Todd Wash as a head coach is an interesting thought to me. There is something about him that makes me think he could be a potential head coach down the line.
Ashawn and Ngata if he keeps form will be a strong wall and tyrunn walker can come in rush.

Yeah...but DTs play pretty well into their 30s.
Ngata struggled some with injuries, but once he got healthy he played pretty well for Detroit last year.

Yeah, its just kinda a looming threat but hes a quality player i doubt he free falls in anyway. And they can probably get more out of him and keep him fresh rotating between robinson and tyrunn

Smith seems like the type of coach you would have just gotten rid of in Bradley; someone to keep a young team focused while you're building, not a coach to put the team over the proverbial hump. His tenure in Atlanta would somewhat mirror Bradley's here, not record-wise, but in that he's a defensive minded coach who was not able to fix the team's defense while a highly capable offense was wasted. Plus his time management is absolutely awful.
I'm always a bit wary of college coaches making the transition to the NFL, but I'd still make a strong push for David Shaw. He's eventually going to leave Stanford for the NFL and I think we could be an ideal situation for him. He would have a highly capable general manager to work with in Dave Caldwell, an owner who has shown patience in building a team the right way in Shad Khan, and perhaps most importantly a young ascending team with a franchise QB already in place.
I really have a good feeling about Austin, if gus is out after an 8-8 season i could see it.
wanna call that one now just in case it leads to a nice i told ya so later

Well I've thought about taking the job with a few teams, but decided that I'm in a better position right now and I don't really want to move or commute.
If the Raves have a bad year i would LOVE Harbaugh! Also what about Coughlin,i dont think they would but what do yall think? Marrone would probably be the favorite but i do like the Austin pick and another name to consider Dan Quinn, maybe not here but somewhere else. Matt Patricia would be another name to add the list as the Patriots DC. My ultimate wild card-David Shaw(Stanford) would be a great pickup

Harbaugh is cool. Coughlin is old but hes definitely gonna be looking for a job hes said he really wants to coach again. Dan Quinn just got hired by the falcons so hes not gonna be out yet.
How did I forget the Dan Quinn signing......just gonna go hide in silence now
Either Harbaugh would be awesome, especially Jim. Agree with haveaseat though, Olsen will be the most realistic candidate for me if the offense continues to show improvement.
