Quote:I am over that whole "energy" thing with these coaches now. Or that label "Player's Coach". Don't care. All I want is production, results and effective cause with positive effect. A lot of children have great energy too but they manage to spout pure illogical nonsense at the speed of a bullet train.

It's shut up or put up at this point. Some coaches are as silent as a mouse breaking wind in a small corner of an attic. And yet they manage to get what they need out of their roster. And some coaches are as loud as Metallica was at a live concert back in the 80s and yet they fall overwhelmingly short with their roster.
Mike Singletary comes to mind in the later.

I agree with your logic.  The results will speak for themselves.  Jerry Sullivan is showing what good coaches can do.
Quote:Maybe I'm missing it, but where does he mention that?

"Wash has installed a more aggressive defense with zone principles. He says the changes have allowed for more opportunities for the defense and it is showing with turnovers created in every practice.

"The system hasn’t changed, it’s how you run the system," Wash said. "We were more of a match-route team and that kind of stuff and that’s not what this system is, nothing against anyone else. We’re a zone team. You can see guys getting more breaks on the balls. We’re getting hands on the balls.""

Sorry, I wasn't clear, it wasn't from the OP.

I took that as referring to the way our guys dropped back into coverage last year but didn't seem to move/react much once they finished their drop back. I think Wash wants them reacting and attacking the ball/receiver within their zone concepts now.

Good to hear if true ,that was one of the most annoying things about the D last year.

I was definitely wrong. I believe he's referring to this:

It's kind of tough to gauge since it's a small quote and also we put emphasis on both zone and man coverage in different games last season, but I think you actually were right.

I think Wash wants to get away from playing a mixture man and zone and instead focus on playing zone as much as possible. It would make sense that we were playing far more man coverage last year than they would have liked because you can get absolutely killed in zone if your line can't get to the quarterback. Zone coverage creates a lot of turnovers if you have a good line since the quarterback doesn't have as much time to read the defense and recognize where the defenders zone are located before they throw. Those defenders who are sitting in the zone and reading the QBs eye can make a quicker play on the ball and create turnovers. However, with our putrid line, a quarterback could sit back in the pocket all day, find the soft spots between two zones, and pick us apart. The game against New England would be a prime example of that.

Seattle runs quite a lot of zone coverage as has Carolina. With the returns of Fowler, Skuta, and Marks and the additions of Ngakoue and Jackson, we should be able to put much more pressure on the opposing QBs and improved back seven should be able to capitalize on that. It would make sense that if Wash believes we can sufficiently put pressure on the opposing quarterback, we'd move towards that style of defense.
