Coming soon to zoo's near you. 6 inch glass on EVERY display because humans find a way to ruin EVERYTHING.

Jax zoo has that in many places. Doesnt diminish anything for me personally.

No, it's not that simple. A series of events and oversights contributed to this event. Had the mother intended for the gorilla to die, your overly dramatic assertion might hold water. Sometimes bad things happen that are not attributable to a single cause.
Sometimes yes, Just not in this case.. If the guardian had control of the child the gorilla lives. It is this simple in this case. Grammar corrections..... really?
Quote:Jack Hanna is deeply involved with the Cincinnati Zoo.  As much as I respect what he has meant to animal conservation you have to discount what he says in this situation.  Everything about this stinks.  Negligent parents, improperly secured enclosure, and one dead endangers species.
I don't think Jack Hanna has any connection with the Cincinnati zoo.  He is the Director at the Columbus zoo.

I agree with Jack the zoo made the right decision to kill the animal.  They had no choice at that point.  A tranquilizer dart may have really angered the gorilla before it took effect 5-10 minutes later.
This is like the Cecil the lion [BLEEP]. Nobody cares about a gorillas life until one gets shot and it makes the news
For me it comes down to this.

What is more important?  A human child's life or a gorilla's life?

Depends who you ask. The gorilla and the child's mom would have different answers.

Are you going to ask the question to the gorilla?

Petty much.

Even though the gorilla didn't seem overly aggressive he was pretty much rag doll dragging the boy from spot to spot. All it would take is for him to pull too hard and seriously injure the boy or possibly drown him if he gets angered by a tranquilizer dart or by the bystanders screaming, which according to the story was happening. It's sad but it had to be done.

Careful, you're acting like there's a distinction.

I stand corrected, you are 100% right.  Jack Hanna is the director of the Columbus Zoo not the Cincinnati Zoo.

After reading several responses from various experts I reluctantly agree.  Reluctantly only because it is just sad to have to put down such a noble beast because of human error.

Well, I do realize that my question might "trigger" someone.  However, a human life is more important to me than an animal's life.
Quote:I would think Hanna's allegiance to animals goes way beyond a city zoo..
Bongo the gorilla doesn't sign checks. The Cincinnati Zoo does.

Having a net worth of over 8 million, I'm pretty sure he doesn't exactly need the zoo's money.

That tool has $8M?! Dude, you and I need to open a zoo.

8.5 mill.. And I'm too stupid to do that. So if you wanna run it, I can clean the poo

No way! I need a fall guy--I mean, equal partner.

What make's an animal "noble and why is a "noble" more worthy of protecting?  Would anyone care about this if is was a fat, ugly animal?
