He was flagged by the Jags medical staff at the combine, could be out 4-6 months. Better to get it over with now rather than delaying the inevitable, tough break for the Bills though.
<p style="background-color:transparent;">Bills first-round DE/OLB Shaq Lawson will undergo right shoulder surgery on Tuesday, and is without a timetable for a return.
Lawson's shoulder was flagged during the Combine, and he had "an occurrence of the condition last week." Lawson had previously claimed surgery wouldn't be necessary. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported shortly after the draft that Lawson would eventually need an operation that would sideline him 4-6 months. That's the best guess now, and it leaves Lawson doubtful for Week 1. The reserve/PUP list is a possibility. Whenever he finally returns, Lawson will have to be babied through his rookie campaign, and could end up limited to situational pass-rushing duties.

Glad the Jags flagged him. If he was healthy it could have changed what we did in the first round and we likely wouldn't have wound up with all the dominos falling into place like we did.
Ouch. And Sammy Watkins has a broken foot. Not a good day for Buffalo.
Of course Lawson said before the draft that surgery wouldn't be necessary. He wouldn't fib about something like that, would he?
Not his fault Buffalo picked him as high as they did though. Everyone's a risk.

Kinda like when Jack says his knee is 100% or he won't need micro fracture surgery? That thought is scary.
The original article said they were going forward with the surgery because they don't want him to aggravate it during the season.
Now schefter is saying he aggravated in practice doing a swim move on a tackling dummy.

Even though he actually said it's possible that he might need that very surgery, helping cause his own draft stock to plummet? Same guy?

Based on the following article, Shaq Lawson had a valid reason to be confident that he wouldn't need surgery:

A few weeks before the draft, I thought the wide range of where Lawson would be taken would be between picks # 10 and # 25. I ultimately settled on pick # 13 ( Miami ) as my projection. After seeing many mock drafts in the last few days prior to Round 1, it looked like the consensus was Lawson would go in the first half of the round between pick # 9 and # 16.. It's likely that one or more teams lowered Lawson's grade because of the shoulder and that's why he fell to pick # 19.
Though the Bills could end up getting good value from Lawson for many years, I think they would have passed on Lawson at # 19 if they thought he would need surgery. Especially after they didn't meet ownership expectations last season.

But honestly,
when is a good day in Buffalo?

Ah. Good point.

Those days they won the AFCC/4 years in a row. But the good days turned bad again just 2 weeks later
Wish him the best, same with the Bills.(until they play us)

True, but there's a difference between 19 and 36 and there's always a point where the reward outweighs the risk. Jack wouldn't have likely been available much longer had we not taken him when we did. And I don't mean to sound like I'm dismissing the concerns about the knee because I have them as well.
I just gained a whole lot more confidence in the Jaguars medical staff.
