He knew X's and O's and was an excellent study. People forget how much progress he was making when he got injured. His throwing motion was the problem not his Football IQ. He was never going to speak like people expected.

Quote:OK ... so the QB that was too stubborn to listen to coaches is now going to coach ??Exactly.
Very interesting. Maybe Carson Palmer can learn a few things from Byron :woot:
"Hey Carson, you need to slow down that release."
"Hey Carson, hold the ball a little longer then release it (with a long wind-up) right before you get hit."
"Hey Carson, make certain you throw the ball as hard as possible on those little flair routes to the RB coming out of the backfield"

Good for him, smart player, do some of you people think only great players can make good coaches? Most great players suck at coaching because they were gifted with all that talent and it was easy to them.

IMO, the franchise had a good QB in Mark Brunnell, average to below until the arrival of Blake Bortles whom has already proven to me at least that he is better than Mark.. but simply needs the wins to go with it...

Liked the guy, just wasn't a great player. I understand that he never did quite heal from the injury he suffered at Marshall.
Good luck Byron (except against the Jags)

Like him or not, just because a guy sucked at the sport does not mean he will be a bum coach. Most coaches hardly made a career out of playing in the NFL. That being said, I just don't think he has what it takes to coach.. Who knows, maybe he is the next Mike Tomlin but the vibe I got from Byron was just chill, laid back, whatever attitude. Not exactly coaching material imo.

Carson Palmer goes down in pre-season. Byron Leftwich comes in as the starting QB. Arizona goes 13-3. Wins the NFC West and loses the NFC Championship to Green Bay by 3 points.
