Full Version: What does cap space look like next year?

I've seen a couple web sites (Like this one: http://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space/)  that shows us still having the most cap room for 2016, but about 25th for 2017.

Are we really that low for 2107, or will unspent money roll over etc? Anyone know?

We be good fo show next year
We had to spend enough to ensure we reached the 3-year cap floor. Caldwell recently said we still have a ton of cap space, and what's left over typically carries over to the following year. Indeed we're among the highest spenders this offseason, but our future is still in great shape. The tricky part for next season is that there are several players this season looking at this year as a "contract year."

Only the difference between the true cap and our spending rolls over correct?

The difference between the adjusted cap and our spending does not. Please correct me if I am wrong, but we are looking at rolling over 20 million or so at this point. Not the crazy 54 million number we currently have.

You can add 8 million to the cap after Henne and Poz are cut next offseason

Doubtful Joekel will be extending. It was thoughtful of him to try and save us money with his poor play.
I think I heard Caldwell say the Jags would have more cap next year than they did this year.

3rd paragraph:

“[It] really nothing to do with Luke but more so . . . our cap situation,” Caldwell said. “We have plenty of cap space going into next year. We’ll have more next year than we will this year and we just didn’t need to do it. Luke, we expect him to be here for a long period of time. I talked to him. Luke did play good football this year for the most part. He had a couple games that he struggled with and he knows that but for the most part he’s a good football player and we’d like him to be part of this moving forward. But we just didn’t feel like we needed to pick up the option. If he plays great we’ll pay him like a great player and we have the capability to do that.”
It's good they've positioned things right because eventually, you're going to have to pay the young players who make it into their second contracts.  Some of those players are going to take a serious investment, i.e. Bortles, Robinson, maybe Hurns and Telvin Smith, etc.
