Quote:I'm not the only one that thought he did well at Center his rookie year, am I? I mean, he was definitely not the weakest link on that O-Line in 2014. Am I remembering that wrong?

Par him getting blown up by Timmy jernigan I thought he did OK.

Personally I think they have left this open to allow them to get

Joeckel beachum cann kinder Parnell

All on the same line.

I would assume that will be the starting 5 until mid-season. If joeckel stinks it up beachum moves outside and maybe Shatley comes in.

Tasslehoff Burrfoot?
Pretty sure you answered your own question
Im surprised he hasnt taken hold of the C position as well.  I thought he did a fairly solid and serviceable job being thrown in as a rookie.  I'm surprised after two years of experience and being in the weight room he wouldnt have improved enough to take hold of the position.  Especially considering we dont even have a center on the team.  I wonder if Bowanko has maxed out his ability and the team sees him as nothing more than a quality backup to fill in in a pinch with no future as a starter.

Disappointed we havent done more in the offseason to fix the line in general.

We did add Beachum but honestly he signed a strange deal.  Very little guaranteed with a "modest" salary in the first year escalating to big dollars(none guaranteed) in future seasons.  It's a contract that screams being let go after the first or second season.  Good for us I suppose.  Definitely put's the onus on him to perform well and to do so immediately.  However it makes me think that we think he is more of a one year tryout guy and if he pans out great, if not adios.  I wish we had done more than that this offseason.

The Beachum deal is structured as a prove it deal.  If his health hasn't returned and it seems like he can't take the LT job, then you let him walk after this year.  If his health holds up, you keep him and it turns into a franchise LT deal.
Joeckel/Beachum     Cann     Bowanko     Linder     Parnell

GO JAGS!!

Quote:I wonder about Bowanko too.  The competition with Wiz was deemed essentially too close to call and the team went with Wiz's experience and familiarity with the offense over the more athletic Bowanko.  So with another year in the system and the weight room and the obvious need for a long-term answer at Center, why not Bowanko?  I hope he gets a legit shot at C with the two excellent OGs beside him.

I think the idea was to get one more look at Joeckel, with Beachum as the fallback. Joeckel will probably start the first few games while Beachum takes it easy on his knee. By game four the Jags should know if there's any hope for Joeckel.
