Fortunately, LB and CB are two positions that transition to the NFL pretty quickly.

We have the best roster in the AFC south.... Period.

A still ascending offense mixed with a vastly improved defense should mean an AFC south crown.
Fowler. He fills the biggest need, we really need him to perform this year
If our young potential stars pan out, we should be very good for a very long time. Last few years have been rough from a win/loss perspective but I think Khan and the entire front office knew this would be the reality of gutting the roster which has allowed us to be in position to draft top 5 talent for a few years. This should start paying off this year barring catastrophic injury.

This will be the blueprint for how to rebuild a struggling franchise. The question is will another owner have the patience that Khan has shown?

Well, he is very young, and he's had a whole year to learn the system, and to become more NFL-ready physically.   So he should be a lot better now than he would have been last year.
Perfect thread title..   This is the best team in Jax history…  The question is of coaching.

All that I can say is thank you to Shad Khan, and of course Dave Caldwell.  It has been such awful suffering..  I'm not sure I would trade our roster for any in the NFL..

If Gus Bradley can find the right balance, and get this group to truly recognize what has been assembled.  Get that confidence in themselves going..  I don't see how miss winning the Division..

All the pieces are in place..   Now we need plays.. and gameplans.  Adjustments, clock-management..  flea-flickers that work.  4th and 1's that get 3 to 4 at least…

What an amazing group of athletes!!   I want a neon Jags sign for my front yard..  Now, I wonder if we can WIN !!

In last years draft Fowler Jack and Ramsey could have been top three picks and we all get them to play this year. Unreal
We're going to have some really good training camp battles between the offense and the defense.   A good offense doesn't get any better by training against a crappy defense.   It might make them feel good, but then they get in a game against a real defense and reality strikes.   It'll be interesting to see Jalen Ramsey and Allen Robinson go head to head.   Or Myles Jack matched up on Julius Thomas.   Or Luke Joeckel or Kelvin Beachum blocking against Dante Fowler.   It'll be interesting to see Blake trying to look off Tashaun Gipson.   Or AJ Cann blocking Malik Jackson.

This should be a real good training camp.

I just can not even believe it myself..   Of all the teams I have ever rooted for, this is perhaps the best one.  We are just loaded.

I absolutely love Caldwell's approach to his position.  He just keeps piling it in..   Ramsey, Gipson..  Jack, Fowler, Jackson ..

Wow wow wow…  what a team!  Don't we have some good guys on O too??  lol   It's absolutely incredible.

Is this the same organization with drug deals, one-hand receivers (I know it is popular today due to sticky-gloves but I still think two hands are best..)  guys that get Unsporstsman-like at key moments…  all those damn busts…

This is a team we can be proud of..  character in spades..  It is the intangibles that matter most..

Unquestionably the best I have felt about the team since I signed on the wagon 20 years ago..

BUT,, it don't mean a thing without that RING !!!    This team has what it takes

I agree we are ALOT better, i agree we should be excited. Based on the fact that 5 separate times during the draft i was jumping and yelling (Cowboys take Zeke, We take Ramsey, Cowboys take Jaylon, We trade up to 36 and get JACK, and Day was one of my personal favorites, watch him do LB drills at the combine haha) At the same time I'm trying to side with Dave where he says still must put it all together..... But very good time to be a Jags fan!

Even before the draft,  I thought the Jaguars had the look of a team that should have a winning record,   with around a 50-50 chance of making the playoffs.   After the draft,  anything less than 10 wins this season probably should be looked at as a disappointment for Jaguars fans,  unless injuries are a dominant theme in the Jaguars season.

If the Jaguars injury situation stays near the median of the NFL or even more favorable and growing pains with the young talented players aren't overwhelming,  an 11 win season season or a little better is realistically possible.  Dave Caldwell and those working under him regarding personnel decisions are doing a great job.  I can definitely see why Kyle O'Brien's services were in demand.

Hold your horses, champ. I know fans are going to fan, but with a team that won 5 games, 11 wins should never be considered "a realistic possibility".

A hope, yes. A dream, yes. We'll see.

With the personnel the Jaguars have at this time,  how can 11 wins not be a realistic possibility?    The pieces the team added this off-season,  coupled with Dante Fowler's return provides a scenario that 11 wins is something shouldn't surprise anyone if it happens.  Of course,  it might not happen or even be close to that tangible level.   But when looking at the talent on the Jaguars roster,  why can't they win 11 games if key injuries aren't a major theme and youth isn't an overwhelming negative factor?    At the very least,  the Jaguars are now closer to 11-5 than they are to 5-11.

Just the time it takes to gel.  That's what might keep them from 11 wins.   They'll be better in 2017 than in 2016.

But with so many new players to integrate into the defense, it might take some time to gel.
Quote:I remember a while back, there was a discussion about the Super Bowl winning defenses of the modern era and the things they had in common.

Whether you are examining the Steelers and Cowboys of the 70s, the Bears, 49ers, Skins of the 1980s, Dallas, Denver 49ers and Packers of the 1990s, etc., they all had one thing in common: All of those defenses had playmakers on each level of the defense.

Defensive "triplets" if you will.

Think about it.

Steelers of the 70s: DL-Greene, Greenwood; LB Ham and Lambert; DB Blount, Shell

Cowboys of the 70's: DL Martin, White; LB-Henderson; DB Waters and Harris

Bears of 1980s: DL Dent, Hampton; LB Singletary, Marshall; DB Fencik

49ers of 1980s: DL Carter; LB Haley; DB Lott, Wright, Williamson

Skins of 1980s: DL Manley & Mann; LB Marshall; DB Green

Cowboys of 1990s: DL Haley & Lett; LB Smith; DB-Sanders & Woodson

Packers of 1990s: DL R. White; LB Simmons; DB Butler

Ravens of 2000: DL McCrary; LB Lewis & Boulware; DB Woodson and McAlister

Bucs of 2000s: DL Sapp and Rice; LB Brooks; DB Barber & Lynch

You get the point.

If we hit on Fowler, Ramsey and Jack, we could have our own triplets on all three levels of the defense. I like the possibilities.

Not only that but Malik Jackson added to the mix as well. He's not a pass rusher level playmaker or difference maker but he's got ability to make offenses plan for him.
Wealth of talent does NOT mean wins..  Any look at NFL history will prove that out.

This year needs to be about WINNING..  stomping our opponents like we have been stomped for so many years..  Sending the message that Jacksonville is an UNPLEASANT place to visit..   Time for us to be putting other teams in the 0-4, or 1-3 categories..

The Rebuild is complete - now it's time to see if this sucker can fly ..

It can be a realistic possibility.

Most 5 win teams don't have Bortles, Robinson, Hurns, Thomas, Linder, young promising RB in Yeldon, a young promising guard in Cann and that's just on offense.
Fowler might excite me as much as anyone.

After hearing the team mention how good of shape he has himself in already, that has me excited to see what he can do.

Another measure of a rebuild is how the team is stocked at the marquee positions of QB, LT, pass rushing DE, and CB.

Do we have a QB?  I think we can put that as a yes.

Do we have a LT?  Still unsure.

Pass rushing DE?  Unknown with Fowler.

Cover CB?  Ramsey?  I believe so.

When Caldwell took over, we had nobody to really put in ANY of those positions.

The changes Caldwell has made in just a few years are outstanding.

Even with the unknowns this roster is still far and beyond better than anything we have had in too long to remember.
