Quote:The run blocking stats are from Beachum's 2014 and 2015 seasons.
I wonder how much of that is Bell. Beachum is a very good tackle, just don't think he would translate well to guard.
Yes Linder was given the majority of reps at C and they said he's pretty comfortable moving there. They wanted a C for years to come and if he adapts that would be great.
They said they are keeping Cann at RG with Parnell and at the moment Bernadeau is having the majority of reps at LG. (apparently the alternative would be Shatley)
Gus said that Bernadeau has the same attitude and mindset of Parnell last year and considering he's experienced I think it's the most likely to start at LG in week 1.
I also believe Beachum will be the starter at LT once fully recovered and he's pretty confident and determined to prove he's a LT not a G.
I can't see Joeckel being moved inside to G.
One guy I would pay attention to is Slater, the OL we brought in as undrafted: 6'7, 335 lbs he's the biggets guy on the roster and he played RT in college but apparently they made him move to G last week.
With his size if he adapts to G I wouldn't be surprised if they want to see if he's a candidate for the LG spot in the future.
If everyone was fully healthy and we had to play tomorrow I'd say that right now the line would be: Beachum-Bernadeau-Linder-Cann-Parnell.
Probably a mistake simply because a player is elite at RG doesn't mean he'll be elite at center.. while he might be average wouldn't you rather keep him elite at RG.. and simply sign an average center.. poor mgmt / coaching..

I completely agree, why fix it if it isn't broken?
Get linder back where he belongs, we gonna move arob to the slot now while we're at it?
The Draft was fantastic & Free Agency okay expect for the failure to truly address the Offensive Line especially at a critical position like Center. (assuming Beachum will be healthy at LT that is)..

how do ypu know its a failure when we haven't even played a game yet. I like the move, our best oline player at C calling the plays. The run game will be much improved
Anyone else think he's potentially the best player on the ENTIRE team? He's been dominate nearly every game he's played as a guard. If he can be 1% of that as a center it's like having a younger/more athletic Alex Mack on our roster.
think he can become all pro at that position rather quickly
We'll see. He has to anchor down the middle now. It's not as easy as plug and play for some lineman. He now has to make line adjustments, call out the blitzes and identify where it's coming from. Having one hand limited with the ball in his hands at first may also play a role in him being able to properly throw a punch inside or get a quick jump on the man in front of him. I am confident he can do it. But I expect there to be a few mishaps here and there. He's coming off an injury still and now he's being asked to play a new position. That's a lot of physical rust to knock off and mental hurdles to overcome in one off-season / training camp & pre-season.
Has Linder ever played Center...as in college or high school...or is this brand new to him?
Totally supposition, but I think Linder will be fine at center. I also think center is more important than guard. If we are good on center and the right side, that leaves left guard and left tackle. If Beachum heals up, I see him getting the tackle spot, as I don't see Joeckel getting significantly better than last season. As far as Joeckel at guard, I can see it. From my recollection, Joeckel's biggest flaw was that when he moved into space, he was vulnerable to whiffing on speed rushers and being off-balance and owned by power rushers. Basically, Joeckel in space is Clark Kent. Put him in a phone booth, who knows, the guy might be Superman. Bernadeau looks to me like depth and maybe insurance in case no one else steps it up at left guard. I think we have enough options to where we don't have a "Brewster" situation. Next year, if we still have holes left, we have the draft and free agency capital to address them. If not, we can finally build some really good depth with best available line signings.
Tyler Shatley just might beat out Bernadeau for the start at LG.

I agree with everything you said, especially about Joeckel. I think he'll make a fine guard, especially as he continues to get stronger. Nice post
They should put Joeckel at G. Ive said that before as well
It's worth a try at the very least if he doesn't beat out Beachum

I think he absolutely does have that potential. We'll see how he does at Center.
Joeckel isn't moving to guard he dont have enough sand in his pants to handle the power inside. He is already getting trucked by bull rushes at left tackle he would probably crumble at guard.

To be fair, he'd be using a different technique altogether and be more parallel to the LOS. It's possible that having that smaller box of space would allow him to focus more on using his strength. Quite possible he sucks there too, but it's worth kicking the tires on him since he's gone next year if he doesn't do anything.
I'd rather test Luke inside for this season and try to get something out of him Vs. having him ride the pine and offering nothing to the team this year. If he can kick inside and hold his own at LG or RG then let it ride.
