nobody knows anything.

Even people that have been following the Jags have a number of possibilities at 5 and even realistic scenarios of trading the #5 pick.

If that was the intent, which I'm sure it was, then they did a great job.

I don't know how they do this. It's impressive.
I agree, I have no idea what we're going to do lol. They play their cards right; I'll give them that.

GO JAGS!!

Yeah, it's funny listening to people try and dissect Dave's comments. For instance this afternoon on my drive home, I heard Ballou trying to make sense of Dave's comment about not drafting for now, but for the next 10 years. Ballou went through every propspect and then realized that Dave's comment could've applied to any of them lol.

Not to mention we have been "locked" into taking Jack, then Buckner, and now everyone is flipping to Floyd.

I love the anticipation leading to our pick. Tomorrow will be like Christmas to me.

@MikeSilver which team hides their intentions the best prior to the draft? Pats?

Dave is a boss. Love it. Keeps the discussions going all the way up to the picks.
This is the first year it's been like this. In years past I think they've telegraphed what they were going to do and I don't have a problem with that as long as they take advantage of other GMs beginning to believe the telegraphing. Good poker players telegraph what they really have sometimes so they can bluff effectively later on.

I disagree. Nobody saw the Bortles pick coming and last year it seemed everyone thought the pick was going to be Cooper or Williams.

I agree. Even in the Bortles year - he said that Manziel is the most ready to play in year one (but only because his game will be about the same).

Bortles had the best upside and he picked him anyway. Let's put it this way - I was shocked we got Bortles.

The year later, it could've been a number of guys - and we pick Fowler.... when Williams and Cooper were mocked just as much if not moreso to us.....

then last year - he says that drafting a RB in the top rounds is for teams that feel they are "close" and that we can find a RB anywhere - and we pick Yeldon.

It's just been all over the place.
Gene Smith was good at keeping his picks a secret too.

Nobody ever knew what the heck he was going to do.

You only tell the people the final pick that absolutely need to know. When you (Dave), Shad and maybe Gus are the only ones that knows what exactly you want to do that makes it easier to keep it from the media.

My opinion.

You thought it was going to be Cooper or Williams when Fowler came out and said the Jags were taking him a couple of days before the draft? I was advocating Williams if he was there but said at the time it was going to be Fowler which wasn't a shock as most mocks had us taking him.

I'll give you the Bortles pick, that was a shock at the time but even immediately after I realized how obvious a QB pick there had to be and Bortles was the only one with true prototypical size to warrant at 3. It should have been obvious to the league if not to fans.

I don't think even Gene knew what he was going to do.
Yeah, that Fowler pick became more and more obvious days leading up to the draft. He was the guy I definitely thought we were taking and most others thought so too.

Bortles was the only shock, but what do you expect? He's a QB, which is often a position that gets over drafted because you need a franchise QB to go anywhere.

He was doing what Madden told him to do. Madden 98 that is.
