Imagine you somehow had a time machine and you could go ten years into the future and look back at the careers of Jalen Ramsey and Joey Bosa.

Ramsey, playing at safety, has a Hall of Fame career - perpetual pro-bowler, utterly dominant year in year out.

Bosa has a good career, putting up somewhere around 8-12 sacks a season and generally being regarded as a good pass rusher. Maybe he makes the occaisional pro bowl in there too.

My question is, if you had that information (i.e. exactly what type of players they would become in the pros), who would you pick in the draft?

It comes down to the value of the position... Is a B+ pass rusher more helpful to a team than an A++ safety? Should the specific short team needs of the Jags influence this decision?

(BTW, I'm not predicting the careers of these players because I'm no professional scout, my question is about the value of certain positions over others)

I think that's a no brainer.  You get the HOF safety.

Give me Ramsey all day.
Rams

Seems like a bit of a consensus forming... Next question: At what point does the DE become more valuable? let's say he puts up 10 - 16 sacks a year consistently... Is that gonna be more valuable for a team than a elite safety?

"With the 5th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars, select, Jalen Ramsey, cornerback, Florida State University"
I like Ramsey but I will always remember him getting run over at the 20 by Tre Mason in the NC game giving FSU a minute to score. Auburn would have ran the ball down the throat of FSU from the 20 and left FSU no time.

But he got better and would be a excellent pick.Of course I am a Auburn fan.

I would take a HoF player over a good player every time no matter the position.

10-16 every year for how many years?
Sounds like we're comparing Ed Reed to Ryan Kerrigan.

In that case you take Ramsey.

Ramsey all pro? Ha Ha

For one he can't catch.  Speed receivers burn the guy.  And hes pumped up by media.  He wont be anything close to earl thomas. So if going to start a thread make it even.  Not one is headed for HOF and other is average.

But lets just say they are in fact even.  I still go with bosa.  Cause we have hardly any pass rush.  Had we had a pass rush and needed back field help.  I would go with Ramsey.  Providing in your day dream he is an all pro.

But I have to wonder had Ramsey not played for Florida State would he be so pumped up here?  I do not think so.

If in 10 years in the future, one is above average and the other is All-Pro....  of course, you take the All-Pro.  The question is a little biased.
Take the HOFer easily.  Can't we get some more info too on pass rushers in this draft?  I feel we're kind of wasting this time travel trip getting only info on Bosa and Ramsey.

I would take a player who gets 8-12 sacks every year for 10 years. Twelve may not be elite, but every elite pass rusher has had a season below 8 sacks. I'd take Bosa 8-12 for 10 seasons.

Only 1 Safety has been inducted into the Hall of Fame who has played in the past 35 years: Aeneas Williams. Pro Bowls is an overrated measuring tool.
