Not sure if this had been posted in the past but this is pretty sad.  It appears that Artie's mother (44 years old) passed away in October and his father has been in prison for a number of years. Artie has 2 younger brothers, ages 15 & 12.  Talk about having to grow up quick.  it will be nice to see this guy sign his 1st contract and be financially secure to assist his brothers throughout their HS and College years.

Also, this story is interesting.  Per the NCAA, funds can raised up to $40,000 unless funeral costs exceed that amount.  I guess it makes sense (so a booster doesn't donate $1 million) but I never knew that existed.

I've posted a few times about him leading up to the draft.

The game after his Mom died was the Duke game in which he had a game clinching INT but was neglected due to a BS PI call.

I'm really hoping we take him with our 2nd rounder. Long, athletic, ball hawk CB. Very raw due to poor coaching but has all world potential. Basically needs a redshirt year.
I hope he pans out for the long run.

Either way, it is a great accomplishment to be part of the NFL and I will be rooting for him ON and OFF the field.

I love players who are different. Artie Burns will want it more than anyone else. People who have struggled seem to come out on top or find a way to.
