The Chargers might draft Buckner and Cowboys have considered it, but it wouldn't shock me if he is the pick.. did seem like he almost slipped up with some inside info there though didn't it?

It sounded like he said "he will be a lot..." then switched it to "there's a better chance of that than people think." I think he was going to say something along the lines of "he will be a lot more likely than people think" and changed it mid-sentence to make it flow better. Anyways Oehser tends to pause mid-sentence a lot, so I highly doubt it was him slipping up on any sort of inside info he somehow had.

John: Pretty good, and a whole lot better than I might have thought two or three months ago.

That's Oesher from 3 days before the draft last year. He seemed to think that we'd take Leonard Williams if he was available.

Oesher is just a media guy. Caldwell will never tip his hat to any media guy regardless of who they work. I wouldn't read into what Oesher thinks about who we draft.

Speaking of not tipping his hand, I believe the true surprise pick could be....Sheldon Rankins, the past few days ive been thinking about this the more I think it could be true. Marks is a an uncertainty now and possibly Caldwell trades him. For a pick in the draft.

In all honesty I'd love the pick, our defensive line would be nasty for years to come.

Good point!  Johnny O is from the old school just like Vic where they both think you get the really big strong fast guys early & often.

Now a days it seems elite QB potential goes like hot cakes, then elite LTs, then Elite potential pass rushers unless a freak of an elite DB is there (very rare -Revis type, Patrick Peterson, Ed Reed, Deion, or who knows Jalen Ramsey).

I like Sheldon Rankins as a player, but he would be horrible as a pick for the Jaguars, unless the team decided to go to a 3-4.

We have plenty of DTs. We need edge rushers.

I believe from what I saw Rankins could play all over the line, as could Malik. It's all about match-ups. Gotta have the better guy on each player, regardless of natural position.

Tyson plays DE, why couldn't Rankins some downs? Hes not like a huge run stuffer DT type, he is more finesse and rushes the QB.

I'd be happy with him, Ramsey, Bosa, Spence even. If we couldn't trade back.

I would never use Tyson Alualu as the justification for Rankins.

As for Rankins, while his quickness would be appropriate inside, outside, being further away from the QB, he'd need more speed and acceleration.  He's best suited to be a DT, not a 4-3 DE.

Even if we went to a 3-4, we'd still need edge rushers and LBs overall.  Stocking up on 3-4 DL when we already have a bunch of DTs wouldn't be the answer.

No way it is Rankins

I really just don't get that feeling.

I actually think he might be gone. It would not shock me if San Diego or Dallas take him.
Johnny O just posted a mock draft on Jaguars.com and he has the Jags taking Myles Jack. If he did have an inside scoop, he isn't using it on his mock draft.

When will people learn that even the local media doesn't have inside scoop. It actually seems they know less than we do because they hear so many rumors they just start grasping at straws and don't know what to believe. Year after year they don't know anything. Fowler seemed so obvious last year and they still had doubts he was the pick over Leonard Williams on draft day.

The surprise pick at 5 if there is going to be one will be Shaq Lawson.
