Go watch what he did in college and tell me he can't be the starting SS. The guy has a lot of potential.
What he's done in college means nothing. That should be quite obvious to you.

My god dude, this is an awful argument you're making.
Obviously what he did in college doesn't mean anything, he's a very solid prospect and is an ideal fit in this scheme though. He has a chance to be a good starting SS on this team. We aren't giving up on Cyprien yet, and we have a solid prospect that will be battling Cyp for the starting job. There's no reason to get another SS unless we're talking Jack who can play several positions.

I just find it entertaining how a few here have latched onto him as the savior at SS based upon an injury-marred rookie year and the fact that his last name isn't Cyprien. He could be good, but we don't know. All we know is that we drafted a kid in the fourth round last year who spend his rookie season mostly on the sideline. Lots of guys look great in college then go on to be mid-pack special teamers in the NFL. What has anyone seen of Sample in a Jaguars uniform to make them think that he's going to be a stud?

Quote:So, the argument here is we should draft a SS who hasn't played a snap in the NFL, and toss Sample to the side because he was hurt and didn't play last year. Makes PERFECT sense. The argument is that saying that Sample "looks to be a very solid SS prospect" with absolutely nothing other than a draft slot and a last name to go on is asinine. If the right safety is there, draft him. Don't peg your hopes alongside Gipson on a kid who spent last year in the tub.

Why draft another Sample?

No one is saying he's the savior, but he does have good potential to be a solid SS. Why draft another guy when we have Cyprien who obviously has been poor but we are not ready to give up on which is obvious along with a solid prospect in Sample. Why bring in yet another prospect before we really see what we have in Sample? Especially with the possible addition of Jack who can play SS. We obviously think highly of Sample and view him as a starting caliber safety, and we aren't going to draft another high SS with a guy we want to see have a competent FS next to in Cyp and a high upside SS, which Sample definitely is.
I'm not pegging my hopes on Sample, but Cyprien has had Josh Evans and Sergio Brown next to him when he's strictly an in the box type safety and that's what he was drafted to be. He's been poor no doubt, but having to do more than what he should be doing has caused him to be way worse than he really is. If Gipson lives up to his billing, Cyprien will look a lot better this year, I can guarantee you that. I don't see him as the long term answer, but in the short term he's fine, AND we have Sample behind him with good potential.
